Like “everyone is 12”, but worse, they were 12 twenty to forty years ago (by most of the media choices) and just … stayed there. It’s a wonder Totino’s didn’t get their own stratum on the new food pyramid.

(And nothing I’m reading today suggests they’re even trying, so *shrug*)

I still think they Could win back some of the decades of goodwill they built up — with some Very Radical changes. Many of us who have shifted our shopping habits aren’t 100% satisfied with the alternatives and could be persuaded back. But only *IF* they demonstrated massive change … SOON.

This tiny koi pond rug took the whimsy level of this large-closet-turned-reading-nook to a new level for us.

Ok, but what’s that social media manager doing? Does *she* want to run for office? Or at least chat on some cable news panels or something?

Chickpeas and white beans, white beans and chickpeas. Perfectly fine ingredients, of course, and indispensable for some things, but NYT acts like they’re more necessary than salt.

Whose to say Noem wouldn’t steal it *to* kill it?

But I like the mnemonic. More useful than having “bird-legged ho” on loop in my head.

We had our reception at Corky’s. They brought out a giant plastic apron so I wouldn’t get bbq sauce on my dress. It was delightful.

And some sort of cucumber products from the mall. So much cucumber!

This is true for so many sports. The purely recreational option has ceased to exist (especially for kids last early elementary age.) Either they’re all-in on a competitive team, or there’s no participation at all.

What? No! … … Surely not.

… What???

… ow. My head…

Me in my 40s: “I am the elder statesman. I am the crone. I carry the knowledge of generations.”

Also me: “Why is that teen icon from my youth old now?!”

No. You can do that with polenta, but you can also do it with grits (which are made with hominy.)

Oh lord, it’s not “porridge”. Unless you’re making your porridge with hominy and black pepper.

There are actually positive iterations of it as well. People love to imagine it’s always negative, but the reason it works is the (potential for) ambiguity.

I so wish I had found more time for my grandparents in their last years. I had excuses — caring for my own young children, etc — but I regret not finding a way.

I mean, sometimes standing still and stirring long enough for a proper brown roux is … well, not “hard” exactly, but it does involve … standing and stirring…

People from the north love to make fun of southerners for not being able to cope with severe winter weather. But we get wet snow (none of that dry, powdery stuff) that freezes hard, and have virtually zero infrastructure to deal with it. Just radically different experiences!

Sure. But this isn’t a nickname that anyone in the area would recognize. It’s just Buford Highway. Which, yeah, is often synonymous with a range of immigrant-owned restaurants and grocery stores. But never called “Little Mexico.”

No glass, no alcohol, no loose ice. But bring all the uncrustables (branded or generic) and alcohol-free-blue-milk-in-plastic that you want. (Or in metal, but you might spend extra time in security screening.)

3.1-5 near Ohlman, IL. Very shallow though, which is likely why it was so noticeable ~75 miles away in STL.
