NEW: City Budget survey results are out. By a more than two-to-one margin over any other scenario, Vancouver residents wanted a tax rate that maintained public services.

Zero means zero consideration of public feedback.

ABC's cuts are as anti-democratic as they are harmful.

they need a functioning city hall and local government that can assist them to make things as easy as possible so they dont waste all their fucking time in line or on hold!! why are you looking to fire 400 local government employees!! those are homes and families that need feeding too you fuckass!!

the struggling family who cannot afford to feed their kids do not need fifty million to the fucking corrupt overtime-abusing traffic-unenforcing homeless-endangering police force!! they need libraries and activity centres and pools and parks so their income is freed to FEED THEIR FAMILIES

"And there's a whole bunch of other people that are struggling, who didn't fill out the survey, that are literally looking to feed their families."

THOSE!! ARE THE FAMILIES!! THAT NEED PUBLIC SERVICES!! THAT YOU ARE CUTTING!!!!!!!!! I HATE THIS POLITICAL CLIMATE THEY CAN JUST SAY WHATEVER THEY WANT

(So, the NYT can still go to hell, but more specifically the NYT editors)

06.11.2025 17:11 — 👍 4    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

So I looked at the actual article - this is a case of the NYT editorial putting a headline on something that says the opposite of what the article actually says. The article itself is a takedown of a conservative argument.

I'm using a loose definition of hidden here - different perspectives. It's hidden when cops choose to police differently based on how a suspect looks; it's hidden when cops focus their presence in certain neighborhoods; it's hidden when cops lie knowing that certain segments of society will believe.

Things can be hidden and also visible at the same time given different perspectives. I agree with you that most white folks have never gone out of their way to look beyond a surface narrative that very quickly collapses if actually looked at closely.

tl;dr fascism has always had a presence in America, it just hid where it could be gotten away with... and grew until it could be gotten away with in plain sight.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

AI-Generated “Workslop” Is Destroying Productivity Despite a surge in generative AI use across workplaces, most companies are seeing little measurable ROI. One possible reason is because AI tools are being used to produce “workslop”—content that appea...

The article echoes what I’ve seen and heard from peers: AI makes it easy to produce slick but shallow work that looks plausible on the surface, yet riddled with errors or bad assumptions underneath.

Your coworkers end up having to fix or redo it.

It’s workslop, and it’s spreading fast.

‘Sick to My Stomach’: Trump Distorts Facts on Autism, Tylenol, and Vaccines, Scientists Say - KFF Health News The White House’s autism announcement exaggerates links to Tylenol, misleads on vaccines, and sets back the field by ignoring decades of research, scientists say.

If you read one story about the autism announcement, make it @amymaxmen.bsky.social's.

One detail that others miss: "Fevers can harm the mother and the developing fetus, she said, adding that fevers are more strongly associated with autism than Tylenol." kffhealthnews.org/news/article...

Global News laid off 26 journalists in B.C. and Alberta today.

In B.C. the layoffs include virtually all of the online team, along with many others.

The business is increasingly cruel, and the hollowing out of newsrooms providing fair and reliable information continues to suck.

Almost makes you wonder if instances should have a configuration option for a max lifetime / timeout... that kills the instance if it's reached and makes noise to the administrative contact (because it shouldn't be triggering)
