That norm was as violent for them as it is for everyone else currently. That’s the problem.

If that system didn’t already exist, it would’ve been a lot harder for Trump to do what he’s currently doing.

Not to mention, that system was already immoral and a problem even before he escalated it!

Has it gotten worse under Trump? Absolutely, there’s no denying that.

But it’s an escalation of a system that already existed! There were already kids in cages, children being arrested at gunpoint, toddlers representing themselves in immigration court.

On top of the constitutional issues, this is obviously a department that (a) has lost its way and (b) has way too much money. Any law enforcement agency that has the inclination or time to do this, much less both, needs to be obliterated and replaced by something else with entirely different staff.

I attempted to go to an ICE patrol training here in LA this morning and they had to turn most of us away because of capacity issues and even as I was leaving I saw a ton more folks showing up
