Also, Andrew Cuomo spent $20 million of NY taxpayers' money to subpoena phone (& gynecological records!) of women who accused him of sexual harassment. How else might those 20 million have been spent? For instance: on resources and services for needy New Yorkers?

Analysis | Try these hidden β€˜NOPE’ buttons to stop AI content How to turn off AI in Google and DuckDuckGo web search results, plus a no-AI nuclear option.

I had the chance to talk to @shiraovide.bsky.social the other day about my fix-Google discovery, @udm14.bsky.socialβ€”which still works more than a year later!

She wrote about it (along with some recent DuckDuckGo improvements) here:

I forgot two more key awful things people say when you come out as bi and/or nonbinary
- β€œthis is a phase”
- β€œI think everyone is a little bisexual and/or nonbinary”

Are you reall? If so let’s talk about it so I can help you come out. Oh you’re not? Ok then maybe you’re reductive & insulting!

i will not vote for my own death

Which is why I think it is important to state, early and often, that trans rights are a red line for me (and I hope for many of you). Push Democrats to nominate someone who doesn't sit around doing podcasts where he nods along with anti-trans ghouls.

Those who could find a tunnel
that has no light at the end of it,
and hold it up like a telescope
to know the darkness
also contains truths that could
bring the light to its knees.
Grief astronomer, adjust the lens,
look close, tell us what you see.

(RIP Andrea, what a loss)

Grief Astronomer by Andrea Gibson

A difficult life is not less
worth living than a gentle one.
Joy is simply easier to carry
than sorrow. And your heart
could lift a city from how long
you’ve spent holding what’s been
nearly impossible to hold.
This world needs those
who know how to do that.

The American right has grown so corrosively hostile to virtue that the kind of moral messaging for kids that we used to consider so unobjectionable as to be borderline banal is now read as a kind of personal attack.

Email from the ADL: "Dear Joel,

It is shocking and disgraceful that the largest teachers union in the country, the National Education Association, is calling for a boycott of ADL and our decades of education materials and data. This biased and one-sided resolution would keep our vital lessons about antisemitism, about the Holocaust, and about hate, bigotry and bias out of K-12 classrooms.

You might wonder what possible rationale there is for this latest example of open hostility toward Jewish educators, students and families, which comes on the heels of reports by Jewish K-12 teachers regarding other antisemitic activity happening within their unions.

Why is the NEA excluding ADL’s voice from educational spaces at a time of skyrocketing antisemitism?

The answer is clear: for a group of pro-Hamas activists inside NEA, their problem with ADL is our belief in the right of Israel to exist. Nothing less, nothing more.

Click here to tell the NEA Executive Committee members that it is unacceptable to fail the students they are supposed to serve by depriving them of resources that can help them fight antisemitism, hate and discrimination. Don’t let the radical anti-Israel advocates within the NEA marginalize Jewish voices."

This claim by the ADL that everyone in the teachers' unions who has issues with working with the ADL at this moment in history is "pro-Hamas" is so intellectually dishonest that it beggars belief. Shades of "You're with us or you're with the terrorists" from the Bush administration.

Ok, I'm ready to point some fingers. These county politicians couldn't get it together after the 2015 Wimberley flood and just kept kicking the can down the road. From what I've read, they had been looking at a $1 million solution and wouldn't use ARPA funds because...it was Biden money.
