If the SLS were a Falcon 9, then Jared Isaacman's "fantastic" plan would look like this. I could agree with the LEO A3 mission (well, SpaceX aren't ready anyway), but the β€˜Standard SLS’ is nothing more than sabotaging NASA’s own SHLV capability.

Have had a few days to see how people at KSC are feeling following the Artemis II rollback. I think one word really comes up a lot in this.

β€œAnnoyed”

Most people consider the ICPS helium issue small and expect it to be a straightforward fix, but are frustrated that it didn’t show up until now.

Do I have to say that I have an another rumor about funny sensor readings and about who wants to keep what? :)

Sure, but did they actually solved the problem or just mitigated? Like, I heard about rumors about F9S2 for over a year that there is something under investigation. The the groundings happened. Now we had an another one. I'm really curious that what kind of investigation could they do under 3-4 days

That's something what I can't understand. From one side people just can't shut up with normalization of deviance despite that NASA stopped everything for a year to do not one but two Orion heatshield investigation to get understanding.

Meanwhile: SpaceX is so fast, they fix everything in no time!!!

I don't think so. But I could ask like 10 things about Dragons which have no answer. Like why CRS-31 flipped on side (AFAIK it's not a stable position), about the forgotten press plate, what was the debris during Crew-8 reentry (afaik nobody questioned ever), about various capsule switches, etc.

NASA in the last 10 years: go back to Moon, gain experience and prepare for Mars.
Everyone in the last 10 years: Booo! So stupid and useless! SpaceX will go directly to Mars!

Musk 1 day ago: Wait, we're go to the Moon!
Everyone since then: How smart is it! Excellent decision!

I’ve never liked Berger. It’s not exactly a secret I keep close.

But calling him β€œHistorically a Musk fanboy) is a huge understatement. He is a major reason SpaceX developed such a cult like following, and is also financially tied to their successes from his access journalism and book deal.

TheSpaceEngineer on X: "Jared Isaacman's project Athena (1/17) https://t.co/qT7NxDBhFj" / X Jared Isaacman's project Athena (1/17) https://t.co/qT7NxDBhFj

Isaacman’s full β€œProject Athena” was leaked over on Twitter. One thing that catches my eye immediately is how he fully assumes β€œspace media” are his talking puppet. x.com/mcrs987/stat...

I'm still reading Gene Kranz's Failure Is Not an Option. Somehow, I had forgotten that all of the Gemini missions launched from LC-19. I had to relearn this today. Just think about the effort it took to put GT-6A on the pad within a week after GT-7 back in the '60s.

Designing Space Hardware is Hard
YouTube video by Breaking Taps Designing Space Hardware is Hard

TIL about how metals cold weld in space. A friend sent me the video below on the topic, where they build a 'simple' spring hinge for a cubesat. I really recommend it - especially for anyone who doesn't get why space is so difficult and costly.

I thought I’d give the Mars Transfer Vehicle (MTV) from the Constellation era a try. Out of the various designs, I chose the most well-known one, the 'Copernicus' with 10m tank diameter.

Here’s a rough, very early version.

14 days and probably 50–60+ hours of layout work later: the final instruction page of the Saturn V ML is done.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to do the test build before autumn - house renovations take priority now.
But finally, there will be proper space for the LEGO!

I confirmed with very good sources and the story seems to be true. I know that ESA people in human flight are quite upset too.

In all seriousness, today I got to see Artemis II (Block I), a gigantic rocket that can actually get a spacecraft out to the Moon without exploding, rapidly disassembling, or any of that nonsense:

So whats up with Saturn V ML? I'm working on breaking the model down into building steps.
This is the first step toward creating the instructions, and it also helps find issues before a test build. It's slow, tedious, soul-crushing work - and there's nothing visually exciting about.

Pogo is one specific kind of harmonic oscillation. The difference is like bugs and insects. Pogo is longitudinal one.
Anyone I’ve talked to who I believe has reliable info says the downcomer was shaking like a guitar string-that’s lateral vibration. Pogo doesn’t look like that.

The more I read Zack Goldmans posts on Twitter, the more I think that he blamed pogo just because there is well known precedent - despite SpaceX routinely creates bizarre Starship incidents that others avoid. There’s a reason rocket manuals list both longitudinal AND lateral oscillations.

missile and go after Orion. And again the LAS's task is to escape from the potential blast radius. The debris have its own momentum, LAS pulls Orion away from that vector. And the chance to get hit by a debris get smaller with cubic order of magnitude as the distance get greatheart. Calculated risk.

no charges on Russian launch vehicles, they just shut down engines).

And honestly I don't really understand what are you coping on the FTS. Yes, we know that it can destroy the boosters. The design didn't changed that much. And even if FTS didn't detonate the boosters it won't become a seeker %
