We dont have to go back to the dark ages of pen and paper if a refusalist. There are strategies to incorporate that encourages students to use their own voices like using their own experiences, cultural backgrounds, and current events ... and it just happens to be things AI can't do well.

I'm a little late to the party, but I'm at CCCC this year in Baltimore. I'll be presenting tomorrow, Friday at 2:45, talking about advocating and building our programs.

I'm teaching a public rhetorics class for the first time over the summer that's crosslisted for grad/undergraduate. What's must reads? What's your favorite activities?

Oh man. I have some really nice reading and resource materials but I haven't done my PowerPoint yet. I'll probably have it in a couple weeks. I'm using Tham's and Howard's UX writing mostly with a couple other supports.

Was in the middle of saying use them as a networking resource. They often post jobs when students alerted me as they brought us the website.

In similar lines for whatever reason, if yall need hugs, people to just sit with, a friend to scream with, an ear to listen, some support, a place to be, whatever, please reach out. I will use whatever energy I have to be a support and offer whatever little safety I can.

I'm sure it's too late and we're all f*cked, but anyone else looking at real exit strategies. Any networking suggestions for expatriation? I'm slightly more than half serious. I'm (like many of us probably are) seriously worried about the welfare and future of my daughter and bi-racial son.

I've all the way concerned. Nit only about the dei walk backs, but also the immense amount of patriotic propaganda all of which is tied to their distribution of federal funding at their discretion.

I wonder if there's outreach from the international options or maybe an expansion of another umbrella.

I was talking about it as a resource with students when they went to the website and pointed it out. Was definitely surprising.

We got some funding in the form of scholarships and a bit more. We also revised all our core classes and have a new course rotation. The classes that were added or re-upped have had very good enrollment. And fairly decent administration support.

Definitely me. If it doesn't meet outcomes, it fails. Everything else is just another reason.

Comp/rhet and/or TPC folks: I have a lot of course development, research, and some other work to do this summer and think that I really need some accountability for getting things done. Anyone want to do some collaborative working or check-ins regularly?

My college has number data. I don't have the exact numbers but they said increase between 2015 and 2022 something like numbers doubled in that time.

They also tote 95-98% accuracy in detection when even chatgpt said they can't. Like cognitively it doesn't make sense because if the database is trained by using data of people's writing of course people will have large sections of writing that sound/look like what ai would produce.

I can't express how much appreciation of my current chair for protecting me from most of that. I didn't feel the over burden at least from that aspect. Such a nice change. I hope everyone ends up hearing that the bare minimum in service is really more than enough.

Tech comm folk: my department is starting a new program in conjunction with expanding our existing ones and we have an opportunity to ask for funding to support needs/wants. What would you want for your tech comm program?

I'm looking for a reading that I can use with FYC students which talks through the process of finding and evaluating potential solutions to a problem. Is there anything out there you particularly like? Any suggestions?

We do have senior instructors who are protected by the department and college. There's also a history of converting to tenure track here. Many of our professors started as instructors.

Pay is on par with sc which is on the lower end of the range. Salary information is public since this is a public institution. There is no research expectation and lower service expectations for this position.

What's your favorite digital scholarship piece? Looking for example texts as resources for graduates and undergraduates. Kairos and Enculturation articles are great, but are there ones that I should be pointing to? Particularly interested in interactive scholarship like Alvarez, et al.

Would love suggestions of any great digital cultural texts in the last decade that are must reads either for my reading pleasure and/or students?

I'm teaching a digital/cyber rhetoric based in literary and media studies. I want to incorporate a variety of cultural texts throughout. Definitely including Haas "Wampum as Hypertext" and probably Banks' Digital Griots. level--undergraduate seniors and graduate masters
