You can be critical of Israeli policies without stooping to rank antisemitism. there do need to be some clear lines drawn.

I have not seen this kind of antisemitic garbage in my timeline, but let's be absolutely clear that such language is the language of Nazis. Period.

so uh I'm trying to watch the Warriors game on Peacock but the stream freezes literally every single commercial break. anyone else dealing with that, or is it just me?

He retired in 2020 after 40 years of teaching journalism and coaching women's basketball at CCC - he's now the women's hoops coach at Napa Valley College.

Like, he would tear it into pieces and throw it in the garbage in front of all of us.

God bless Paul. Have no idea where I'd be or what I'd be doing if not for him.

(It was also fun because on occasion, if he sensed our morale flagging, Paul would pick a random other paper and critique it in front of class the same way he critiqued our paper - with colored sticky dots and acerbic wit. He took particular pleasure in tearing up the DVC Inquirer - literally.)

Yeah we got a bunch of other community college student papers mailed to us (and mailed ours out in return) - a great way to see what other good ideas everyone else is coming up with.

Oh man, Las Positas College? we totally got your paper, I remember reading it.

(apologies to DVC graduates worldwide, it's a perfectly cromulent school but we at CCC took a lot of pride in beating their brakes off at student journalism.)

Paul DeBolt ran one of the tightest ships in the nation. All-time great. I was on half a dozen ACP Pacemaker-winning staffs and scored a Pacemaker Finalist in 2007, the year I was editor-in-chief. Took home runner-up Reporter of the Year and third-place Diversity Story of the Year too.

oh man, hell no. they weren't good enough to make our coffee. Contra Costa College had one of the top-10 community college journalism programs in America.

Typo there - that should be "she." The editor was Melissa Navas, an exceedingly wonderful woman who went on to do some really cool stuff in Oregon politics and government.

I was awoken by a phone call from the editor of The Contra Costa College Advocate. He said, "turn on the TV, then get in here."

I did reporting all day and wrote the lead story. We rebuilt the paper in hours and had it on the campus racks at 8am Sept. 12.

I was 11 days short of my 18th birthday.

yeah, this is a pretty perceptive point. Israel wants Iran to be another Syria and Lebanon - and that would be a disaster for the Iranian people.

If we get power again, we should go back and viciously dehumanize the southern aristocracy and the poor whites who fought at their behest at these monuments, memorials etc

CENTCOM told me his unplanned war kept eating interceptors so I asked how many interceptors he has and he said he he just goes to INDOPACOM and gets a new Interceptor so I told him it sounds like he’s just feeding INDOPACOM interceptors to his unplanned war and his strategy cheese started crying.

welp, someone (not me!) finally put this database out into the wild... it's as bad as you thought it was, if not worse.

how much of the "Iranian diaspora" are the sons and daughters of SAVAK agents who fled justice for their crimes against the Iranian people under the Shah?

like, have some historical context here for why there's a brutal, repressive Islamic dictatorship in Iran today.

Iranian diplomats say they are open to revising their stance on no takey-backsies, but negotiations have stalled due to the USA’s inability to glue the ayatollah back together.

A Saudi official saying this on Al Jazeera, a Qatari media outlet, is far more telling than any nugget of information carefully leaked to an American media outlet.

This war will permanently alter the relationship of the Gulf states, the US, and Israel.
