A private system focuses on providing service to the routes and times with the highest demand, whereas the public system has an obligation to provide comprehensive service at all times. Similar dynamic with the post office's duty to provide flat rate service to the entire country versus, say, fedex.

New rule, all literary readings should feel like union rallies.

Thanks to @nyreviewofarch.bsky.social and all the architects, advocates, policymakers, and impacted families who shared their stories with me. (No thanks to Spencer Pratt.) LARA #2 available soon at nyra.nyc

Jimmy Kimmel's show has been restored by ABC. If you have extra money from cancelled subscriptions due to the show being pulled, why not support independent and worker-owned media outlets from now on?

We need voices that aren't influenced or bought by corporate interests and the billionaire class.

There I think I agree!

But I think it would have helped fortify the work if he had spawned a lineage. A whole set of architects and educators who could trace their progenitors back to Taliesin.

The Germans were very good at that.

I think you mean treated* but yes, I can vouch for that.

He was also very flawed as a person, and did a lousy job of empowering many of his would-be disciples. Instead he - and his wife after he died - abused them, really ground them down.

I think it is a fallacious logic that assumes the bigger stores are cheaper because they are more efficient, and that the only way to bring down prices is by unleashing Walmart. I found Zephyr Teachout's proposals for reducing New York grocery prices more trenchant:

I actually just wrote a piece about Co-op City's newspaper, in which I talked to Annemarie:

Vital City | The Real Story of Co-op City A historian explains how the mega-housing-project got built in the first place.

Political candidates love to visit Co-op City and talk about it as a model of how New York can do big things on the housing front. Its complex history complicates the bold proclamations, writes Annemarie Sammartino. www.vitalcitynyc.org/articles/the...

Space invaders On day 32, they came for our parks

As I watched federal troops advance across a mostly empty MacArthur Park, I knew there was one part of the park that was definitely filled with people. My kids go to the same summer camp at another LA city rec center. Where, apparently, nothing could stop this from happening again today
