Ohhhh!!!!!!!! Oh gosh. I have to break her poor wee heart. Last time I voted on election day (I usually prepoll to save myself), the local school was charging $5 for a democracy sausage and my eyes almost popped out of my head. I did not pay that. I went and got a coffee instead!!

It's legit how the school booths get you. You leave happy you put One Nation, Clive palmer or the LNP last and your preferred candidate first like Ha! Take that and i hope we win and Babam! Some old love has her sweet treats fund-raising for the school and next minute you're walking out with treats

You guys get free sausages as well as free stickers ?!?!?! Man we are getting hardcore jipped!!! (My pref voting remark wasn't meant to be snide BTW. I can't speak for other Aussies but my kid and I get a real thrill out of putting specific parties last so it's like a high! I'm aware ny uses it :) )

I wish we got stickers for voting in Australia. Instead you hand over your money for a democracy sausage and a bake sale the school with the voting booth has inevitably put on to lure you in for lamingtions and biccies while you ride the high of preferential voting. I want a sticker dammit

How to get a refund? Ask. Follow up. If your flight is cancelled you are entitled to a refund depending on airline fare rules. Delays in AU also have specific rules where a refund may be due if you don't board the flight. Refunds take 4-12 weeks to be processed for reasons i have never known #travel

Niki Savvas access and analysis always make her books fascinating- but her writing style is so dry they are often a slog for me to get through! Savva is ruthless and scathing in her assessment of Scott Morrison's performance at the 2022 election- as well as his attempt to be Prime Minister leading up to that whole shamozzle (i should point out he was PM, he was just quite awful at the job).And she doesn't hold back. It's like listening to my Maltese uncles - and she is Greek, so it makes a whole lot of sense to me. At some point, Scomo made an enemy of Savva. Savva makes it clear that it wasnt just luck that drove Albanese to the prime ministership in 2022, but a calculated, well organised campaign built around trust and teamwork -which is the polar opposite of what the Morrison tried to do much to the unending despair of his party room AND the Nats. Those LNP party members who kept their seats did so in spite of Morrison's woeful time as prime minister - not because of his performance.

The book tracks his many self serving errors from buggering off to Hawaii while the country burned (and then returning to remind folks he doesn't hold a hose), to reminding people its 'not my job, mate' -except when he goes behind his colleagues backs taking ministeries and quite literally making their jobs his job. And then there was forgetting to order enough vaccinations for covid, installing his own captains picks for preselection in specific electorates who were so detrimental to the campaign that neighbouring federal members lost their seats. Niki takes her time to remind us of all of this and more, and there was so much I spent half the book going 'oh my God I FORGOT ABOUT THAT'. Savva posits that because Albanese was the polar opposite of Scomo, all he really had to do was perform well, trust his team, and let Morrison dig his own grave. And Morrison did so beautifully. Truly, it was a beautifully dug grave. Deep as can be. I'm not sure Savva has it in her to write a book on the 2025 election, but being that she likes Dutton slightly less than scomo I would absolutely read it. Even if it takes me a month to slog through.
