I did similarly on a conference trip, for learning purposes, to USA last weekend. Crossed my Ts and dotted my Is, and had all documents prepared and available. My family was very concerned and called to warn me about arrests the day I arrived, because anything can happen now. No problems, though.

I wasn’t around in the 1920’s, but I saw many talented acts in the street and pubs of New Orleans in 2004. We were going to bring our kids the following year, but for the grace of God, I couldn’t get one shift covered at work. We would have been there during hurricane Katrina.
