Happy meteorological spring! Yes, March does bring snow, BUT here are the 12/1-2/28 snow totals.
- #Boston: 60.9" (avg. 32.8")
- Milton: 78.6" (avg. 44.1")
- Providence: 68.5" (avg. 26.7")
- Worcester: 76.8" (avg. 45")

Nearly double for some spots!

Monday might be the last freezing day of winter for #Boston and most of Southern New England. Warming trend on the horizon with the first half of March likely much warmer than average across #NewEngland

Quick peek forward. Light snow coming Sunday morning, most see a coating, but a few spots can pick up an inch or two.

67.8" of snow this winter for #Providence, 2nd highest ever total before Feb. 25 in a season. Only 1995-1996 had 77" before Feb. 25 AND had another 28" fall after that date. Wow.

Frontogensis draped across the jackpot zone. This is where the atmosphere squeezed so hard to drop 4"/hr snowfall rates.

3' of snow in parts of RI & SE Mass. How?

A late shift east + frontogenesis + instability = long-standing snow band of 6+ hours.

The science behind how we got to historic jackpot snow totals 6" more than any forecast.

A bit more snow is entering New England on Wednesday morning, but held north and west of the jackpot zone of the Blizzard of '26. This clipper will be in and out in a hurry, but a wet commute on Wednesday.

Top 10 snow totals across MA & RI from #Blizzardof26.
Multiple new storm snowfall records were set for some of the top-10 locations. Keep in mind, some spots don't have stations & are spotter submissions, but probably are new records.

Wow. #tfgreen hit 37.9" - just a hair below the all-time snow storm record in Rhode Island. .1" below the 38" set in Woonsocket from Blizzard of '78.

Blizzard of '26, a clone of Blizzard of '78? It's close.

'78 top snow totals: 36" in MA, 38" in RI
'26 top snow totals: 31" in MA, 36.2" in RI
Lowest pressure: '26 = 968 mb, '79 955.5

'78 wins, but barely. Both near exact storm track. Wow.

And now #Massachusetts joins the club. A new state record for 24-hour snow total as Somerset passes 31".
The previous record was 29" in 24 hours in Natick (4/1/1997)

Coming up next. Likely new record for 24-hr snow total in Massachusetts.

Somerset sits at 28.7". The standing record is 29" in Natick, set back on 4/1/97.

Ok, so this bomb cyclone sits at 968 mb. Blizzard of '78 dropped to 955.5 mb, and Storm of the Century 1993 dropped to 960 mb. This will be an all-timer.

Well that didn't last long. A new new state record at T.F. Green airport - 32.8" and climbing!!

This jumps over the previous 24-hr snow total record (Woonsocket - 30") set back during the Blizzard of '78

New state 24-hr snow total record for #RhodeIsland. Warwick reached 31.5", passing Woonsocket's 30" total from the Blizzard of '78! Wild. One or two local totals can reach 3 feet in Rhode Island/Southeast Mass. Wow.

Updated forecast snow totals, what we've seen so far, and max wind gusts. Storm tugged slightly east overnight, bringing totals east & the slightest ever drop in snow totals.

Max wind gusts 70+ along the Cape. 19" in South Kingstown, RI. #mawx #ctwx #riwx @bostonglobe.com

We have reached bombogenesis with this nor'easter. The central pressure for this nor'easter sits at 972 millibars, dropping 26 millibars within 12 hours, and 37 millibars in about 20 hours.

You can see the resemblance of an eye!

Pssst. Guess what? Throw THUNDERSNOW into the mix! Strong frontogenesis will create so much lift that you may see flashes of lightning and rumbles late Sunday night and into Monday morning.

*UPDATE* Major confidence in multiple snow bands as a narrow surface front develops along the south coast (purple shading) & sparks *multiple* heavy snow bands over SE Mass (& spreads throughout Mass/RI/CT).

24-30" jackpot totals, folks.

It's storm-day. Nor'easter is coming together & will push into Southeastern New England later this afternoon and evening.

Thinking 12-18" for Boston, Worcester, Providence, Hartford, with isolated to scattered totals up to 20-22" Wet snow sinks a bit.

With blizzard warnings in place. Here's the parameters for this storm to become a blizzard:

- for starters, we need snow
- then sustained winds of 35 mph
- low visibility of 1/4 mile or less
- all the above for 3 hours or longer.
