“Thank you for your consideration,” he said with a deep bow before scurrying away.

Lan Zhan contemplated in silence for a moment before taking out his phone.

‘How do you feel about Nie Huaisang?'

‘Lan Zhan NO, he is friend-shaped! Do NOT touch!!!’

"I am his very close friend and I think Wei Ying would agree that it would be very sad if I were to… move out of the country, If you know what I mean?”

Lan Zhan only looked at him. His annoyance must have shown on his face, as Nie Huaisang quickly continued.

“I just wanted to come over here and let you know…,” Nie Huaisang started, clearly quoting a pre-written speech by heart. “That I, as an *omega*, appreciate Wei Ying very much, in a strictly *platonic* way."

His eyes searched out Lan Zhan’s from across the room, and gave him a wink.

Lan Zhan was busy writing a paper when someone loudly cleared their throat in front of him. He looked up at Nie Huaisang with a raised eyebrow, a silent command for him to start talking.

That was all the warning Wei Ying got before Lan Zhan scooped him up, and practically threw him onto the bed.

“I can’t believe it happened again!” Wei Ying said in pretend shock. “Do they really have no idea why they keep disappearing?”

“I will take care of it,” Lan Zhan promised. Wei Ying had to bite his lip in order not to grin.

“Is there anything in particular you would like as a reward?” he asked, fingers tapping against the top of Lan Zhan’s thigh.

“I could think of a few things.”

“You know Wen Chao? From math class?”

“I do.”

“I *really* don’t like him,” Wei Ying said, playing with one of the buttons on Lan Zhan’s shirt.

Lan Zhan took a moment to watch him. His expression seemed so innocent, but there was a spark in his eyes that Lan Zhan recognized all too well.

Lan Zhan wasn’t sure what to expect when Wei Yign stood up and closed the distance between them, but it sure hadn’t been for him to sit down in his lap.

“Would you do anything for me?” Wei Ying asked innocently, trailing a finger down Lan Zhan’s chest.

“Yes.” Lan Zhan’s response was immediate.

“You were always smart,” Lan Zhan said after another long moment of Wei Ying watching him.

“And you’ve always been so kind,” Wei Ying said with another wide smile. “And so caring! Always looking out for me, even before we knew each other.”

“Oh yeah! You’d be surprised what you can find out about someone if only you know where to look. And even though it might not all be spelled out word-for-word, it’s pretty easy to read between the lines.”

Wei Ying put his phone down, looking over at Lan Zhan with a smile.

Lan Zhan came to a halt. He carefully looked over at Wei Ying to decipher his reaction, but he was still scrolling on his phone, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

“Is that so?” Lan Zhan said after a beat of silence.

“It’s kind of funny how easy it is to find out everything there is to know about a person,” Wei Ying said, kicking his legs in the air. “Just because someone names a file ‘Roman Architecture- first draft’ and hides it in their Documents folder, it doesn’t mean it’s going to stay hidden forever.”

Wei Ying had warmed up to him immediately, as if they had been friends their entire lives. Now they spent most of their time together, both at and outside of school.

Lan Zhan was sat by Wei Ying’s desk, finishing up some of his notes, while Wei Ying was on his bed, mindlessly scrolling on his phone

“Oh, I see!” Wei Ying said, immediately at ease. He had always been far too trusting for his own good. “Let’s keep going then. But I’m warning you, I’ll keep pestering you the entire time if you decide to walk with me! Haha!”

“Mn,” Lan Zhan agreed.

“Lan Zhan! You scared me!” he exclaimed, hands clasped over his chest. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be on your way home?”

“My house is this way,” Lan Zhan lied. He didn’t live anywhere near there, but Wei Ying didn’t need to know that.

Wei Ying lived far away from school, and usually walked to and from it, all on his own. It would only be for the best if someone was to keep an eye on him. These were dangerous times, after all.

Wei Ying startled as Lan Zhan came up beside him unannounced.

And if it was the latter - what kind of monster could make six fully-grown alphas disappear without a trace?

It went so far that a curfew was set in place until the police could figure out what had happened, which went perfectly with Lan Zhan’s plan.

Two days later, when six alphas vanished overnight, the town was in a complete frenzy. Nobody could figure out if they had all just decided to run away together, or if something more sinister had happened to them.

They only tolerated him because he was attractive, and in their eyes, Wei Ying was nothing more than a pair of legs they wanted to spread.

Lan Zhan made sure to memorize and jot down every single disgusting comment they made about Wei Ying. They would not be allowed to keep insulting him like that.

The other alphas didn’t appreciate him. They thought he was ditzy due to his bright personality, and obnoxious because he was more outspoken than an omega was expected to be.

When alone, it was common for alphas to group together and discuss which omegas they liked, but that didn’t mean that Lan Zhan enjoyed it.

Especially not when the person being discussed was Wei Ying.
