In yet more devastating news, the VC has confirmed her plans to cut 80% of academic staff from Essex Pathways, our foundation year department. This would effectively close down all our existing foundation year programmes through the back door.

But it's not a done deal yet. Please share urgently.

Weird situation. AI adoption in the work world is stagnating, while higher-ed institutions are rushing to embrace it so that students will be prepared for…the work world?

It’s horrible. We moved to England in early 2016 and I remember seeing the flags slowly begin to appear after the Brexit referendum. Ofc so much worse now

It also includes one of the most outrageously realistic portrayals of breastfeeding I have seen in religious art! Especially love Jesus pushing his halo away…

Statement from Parents for Inclusive Education NI on the JR87 ruling:

Parents for Inclusive Education NI welcomes the landmark UK Supreme Court ruling in JR87, which confirms that Northern Ireland’s current RE curriculum breaches children’s and families’ human rights. The Court found that RE in it’s current form is not β€œobjective, critical and pluralistic” and amounts to indoctrination - and identified the failings of the Department of Education to monitor and safeguard what and how children are being taught.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to JR87 and her father for bringing this case. We do not know them, but are in awe of their bravery and perseverance in taking a stand on such an epic scale. They, and all families like them who have been resoundingly let down by the current framework, have been throughly vindicated by the highest court in the land.

It is important for us to re-state that as a group,
we are not campaigning to remove RE or Christianity from schools, far from it. We want RE to be objective, pluralistic, balanced, inclusive and respectful of
every child and every family, regardless of belief.

Yesterday was a momentous, watershed moment and
now is the time for meaningful change. We are excited, optimistic, and fully committed to immediately moving forward to work with a pluralistic and interfaith panel of suitably qualified and experienced educators, policymakers, academics, faith groups and families to build an RE curriculum that truly reflects the diversity of modern Northern Ireland.

Supreme Court rules RE in Northern Ireland is 'equivalent to indoctrination'

BREAKING: The Supreme Court has ruled in favour of a Belfast-based non-religious father and his child that the exclusively Christian teaching of Religious Education and mandatory Christian collective worship in Northern Ireland are discriminatory under human rights law.

Given the serious safeguarding issues uncovered by the Presbyterian church’s own review, it is worth noting that the single biggest source of primary school visitors uncovered by this FOI report in 2023 was the Presbyterian church (2,350 out of 11,500 total visits).
