Another #research project request! If you are the #parent of a 2 year old born in 2023 please consider filling out our #child development survey here: cityunilondon.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

We are interested in whether early #development has changed post #pandemic.

Flyer on Developmental Language Disorder, prepared by the organisation RADLD (Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder). The flyer has the title "You can't see DLD" and shows a photograph of a boy in a blue short-sleeved shirt and khaki trousers, against a purple background. To the right of him there are lines of text which read:
- Started to talk later than his siblings
- Has difficulties learning new words
- Needs lots of repetitions to follow instructions
- Struggles to join activities & discussions
The bottom of the flyer says "Support #DLDday on Friday 17th October 2025. Learn more at RADLD.ORG".

Help spread the word about developmental language disorder, a common yet often hidden condition that makes it hard for children to understand what's said to them & to articulate thoughts & feelings. Lots of helpful resources & information at radld.org.

🚨 Only 3 days until #DLDday!πŸ’œπŸ’› We were lucky enough to have Abraz Hussain come to speak with our older students about his personal experience of #DLD.

Despite challenges, Abraz is a qualified social worker. His key message: πŸ’¬ "There’s no shame in asking for help."

Government Emergency Alerts
and Domestic Abuse
On the 7 September 2025 at 3pm, the government will be testing
the emergency alert system to activate phones and tablets with a
loud alert. If you have one hidden from an abusive partner, switch
it off.
It will alert even if it's on silent or disconnected
from data and wifi.
How to opt out of emergency alerts:
!
Android
Β· Open the settings app
Β· Search 'emergency alerts'
Β· Select emergency alerts and from here you
can turn them off
. Tap the toggles on the right. If they are grey,
this means they are switched off.
iPhone
Β· Open the settings app
Β· Tap on notifications
. Scroll to the bottom of the page. There'll be an emergency alert section
. Tap the toggles on the right. If they are grey, this means they are
switched off

Apologies if this explanation is confusing! It is a fascinating finding and paper, with positive and potentially adaptive findings about adolescents with #DevLangDis. Lead author Dr Claire Forrest, co-authors @drjennyg.bsky.social, Kate Button and Sarah Halligan. Published in JADD.

11.08.2025 18:29 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

They took longer to learn the general rule they were disliked, meaning they paid more attention than adolescents without #DevLangDis to the 20% correct positive words in this condition. This difference was found in both the "self" and "other" condition.

11.08.2025 18:29 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So we found no general social evaluative learning deficit. But adolescents with #DevLangDis struggled to learn they were disliked. For each trial a positive and negative word were shown. In the dislike condition, 80% of negative words were "correct" and only 20% of the positive words were "correct".

πŸ“£ new paper alert! I am SO PLEASED to finally announce this paper's publication. We looked at how adolescents with and without #DevLangDis learn whether a computer likes or dislikes them or someone else. Both groups learned very well when the computer liked them. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
