But like in life, I feel like we could benefit from notes from people more. You can't hang a text message up on your bulletin board.

I feel like this is going to sound like I'm trying to toot my own horn or something, but I don't mean it that way. You don't have to go crazy and give yourself hand cramps.

So now I think, if I had to write this kid a note what would I say? And if it's a kid I don't know well, I try to go out of my way to talk to them when I get a chance.

The last two years I have handwritten nearly 200 individual notes for my students. The first year I did it, it made me realize how little I knew some of my students.

Me looking for my will to live:

I love this job and I don't want to give it up, but at the same time it steals my soul one bit at a time.

I'm having one of those days where being a subpar cog in a broken system is more than I can handle.

It's not bad, it's just never really gotten me like it does some of you.

This rant brought to you by I apparently can't even lock them to just Google docs and expect them to answer the questions about the podcast we're listening to. One of them had apparently opened the document before class, run the questions through AI, and was copy/pasting them to the answer document

I'm not allowed to fail them unless I jump through a bunch of hoops. I don't have time or resources to do my job as it is, especially given my insane student count this year. So I just can't hold them accountable for anything.

And making them do it on paper only in class doesn't do any good for the ones who are absent constantly and will never come in to make things up.

I'm so tired of not being able to ask my students to do any of their own work because they use AI for everything. It doesn't matter what I block.
