These shelters have become community hubs, helping residents reconnect and support one another 🤝.

Local volunteer groups continue to evacuate elderly and low-mobility residents from high-risk areas, often at significant personal risk 🚨.

Through JERU — a partnership between Alliance2015 members @concernworldwide.bsky.social and Welthungerhilfe — underground shelters are being renovated to:
🔹 Improve hygiene and safety
🔹 Provide beds for elderly residents
🔹 Create safe spaces for children

Resilience and Recovery in Izium 🇺🇦

Izium, eastern Ukraine, was under Russian occupation in 2022. Nearly half of its pre-war population has not returned, and the front line remains just 40km away.

Through JERU (Welthungerhilfe & @concernworldwide.bsky.social), youth receive soft skills training and paid internships — building confidence, gaining real work experience, and supporting local businesses at the same time.

Five years into the full-scale war, young people in Ukraine’s Sumy region face shrinking job opportunities, energy insecurity, and constant uncertainty.
