character portrait of someone of the Waster xenotype. she has grey skin. her green eyes are large, asymmetrical, sunken and bloodshot. she has a crooked nose with tall nostrils. her dark hair is jaw length, and she has a silver lock of hair that conceals her larger eye, some of her brows and lashes are also silver. if you are unfamiliar with the game, Wasters occupy the environmental niche of polluted biomes. They can be combat powerhouses, able to survive circumstances or illness that other humans would die in. Their weakness lies in their strengths also, their superhuman immune systems gives them cell instability. higher cancer rates, shorter lives. they are dependant on the fictional substance of psychite, which can be refined into hard drugs that are highly addictive to others. without this substance, someone of the waster xenotype will die. Buxaz strongly believes in transhumanism, in a way she chases immortality, she fears death. over the course of her life, she has gone through changes and lost parts of her identity; in order to placate others she changes her bod; the dangerous events of the Rim leads to her eventually losing her face. She is replacing her flesh with metal. It has me thinking about the resurgence of the "heroin chic" aesthetic in social media. A while ago I was working on a skin retexture for another game (Project Zomboid) set in the 90s where this aesthetic was peaking. My interest in Buxaz was her sunken eyes, her wavering relationship were her health, her chase for perfection. Her character development of her is not within a vacuum, I had an obsession over her while going through my own withdrawals. In the same way poets adored women dying from tuberculosis, the way high fashion lauded the gaunt faces of models in the 90s, romanticizing and gentrifying suffering of the beautiful when the same circumstances destroy the invisible.

Buxaz is a character that exists in the wild west sci-fi universe of #Rimworld, where law is distant and morality is in the hand of the player and characters themselves.

I've been thinking a lot about her character over the last couple months.

My #RimWorld trader colonist is an expert in growing produce and her "Pretty" trait gives her a nice bonus for trading. The creature behind my trader is a "Meadow Ave" from the "Alpha Animals" mod and used with the "Giddy Up!" mod. It's gear is inspired by Chocobos from Final Fantasy.

Amanda Acacia is a "pawn" in the video game RimWorld. She is a professional construction worker and craftsman. In this art work, she is shown climbing scaffolds to build from the blueprints that I give her.
