if you shift something by a semitone i Notice and if you shift it by three or more semitones i probably won't recognize it without some external signifiers

and then when i do recognize it i will be Mystified by how cool and different it sounds

like if you give me a melody i have no issues recreating it exactly and if i remember a melody i remember it exactly where it's supposed to be but my ability to recall exactly where a melody should be prevents me from moving it anywhere else
