I'm sorry you had to endure it! I used to live in York and it was a surprise when a TPE arrived on time! They're better now but definitely not going to win awards for arriving on time or at all.

Would definitely recommend Leeds airport! There's a good bus service and the taxis aren't too bad, especially if you find another medievalist to share with. Plus, you're not reliant on the TransPennine Express to M- a train so unreliable it got nationalised but still often gets delayed or cancelled.
