His bed has more pillows, soft blankets, and even plushies (something he didn't really get as a child) than he can reasonably use.

His bathroom is filled with high-end skincare bottles and two whole baskets of bath bombs and salts. -

On leave, though? On leave, he splurges.

His flat is beautifully decorated. Bookshelves filled with novels, comic books, even DVDs. His kitchen is well stocked with ingredients to make lavish meals and snacks that definitely go against his usual well-balanced meal plan. --

He sits and, for the first time since the day they met, he talks.

He tells him about those lonely nights. He tells him his dreams and wishes and desires. He talks until his voice is hoarse from overuse and the tears he finally sheds, all while Johnny lays still and quiet. --

Live with it, until death nearly steals the sunlit horizon from them.

Simon sits with Johnny every day while his body works to repair the damage the bullet did to his head. --

Live with cold, empty sheets- only their own hands and imagination to chase away the loneliness. Live with the foolish hope that they'll live long enough to one day wake up together, warm and happy. --

For years, they live like that. Live with the barest morsels of affection. Johnny's friendly punches in jest and Simon's crinkled eyes above his mask. Live with the chest aches at night that turn to warm swells when they sit down for breakfast together. --

They survive off their friendship. They greedily soak up the small touches and dumb jokes. They stand too close when they smoke together and stare too long during the lulls in conversation, but they never cross the line. --

Soap knows he loves Simon, and he knows Simon loves him, but he won't say it. If he says it, then they'll be separated, whether through discharge or reassignment, and he can't bear the thought. --

Ghost knows he loves Johnny, and he knows Johnny loves him, but he won't say it. If he says it, it becomes real and can be used against him. --
