My life highlight right now now. Kids r so talented. They made the costumes themselves!

Today i made a mistake of setting Task on MainActor and executing another statement on main dependent on the result from the Task. it didn't work because wrapping it in await MainActor.run or Task { @MainActor in } doesn't run it immediately but schedules it. I had read this, but in practice..

some people think of us as tools, not very efficient ones. it doesn't take a lot of research to see the ideal world scenario for some people who say something else. but i also think these people are just the loudest.

i called a relative and they compared me to another relative my age who "did AI when nobody could and made a lot of money", I told this to a friend who stared out onto horizon and told me about her plans to do AI better than anyone. i think AI is amazing but i dont like this lol.

I’ve noticed that kids, after they’ve been involved in something exciting and requires a lot of mental effort in a group, their performance on other subjects is enhanced. Almost unrecognizable sometimes. Inclusivity, excitement and challenge can lift them to a different level.

But how people get to point of needing remediation vary and methods need to be adapted for individuals. I guess remediation has negative connotation. i imagine that even some very high functioning people have some areas where they secretly feel they need to get better foundation

I was thinking about topics of language remediation or acquisition of any body of knowledge. They’re different from trying to be an Olympic level gymnast or piano virtuoso where early training is critical. I don’t think it’s ever too late. It’s a matter of time and effort.

I was working with my son on writing about book chapter, I couldn't understand why he aced comprehension quiz but struggled on retelling. it's partly receptive vs expressive but also theory of mind. I had him tell story in 5 manga grid drawings, someone has to understand the chapter by sight.

But as great as that recording, hearing the violinist live was at least 20x

what's driving some of this is that people who don't believe in their worth are more easily manipulated into obedience to someone else's benefit, convenience. it also justifies cruelty. scapegoating mechanism where someone is always dumping ground for unresolved anger, frustrations

You’d think that’s obvious, but how many times have you heard some variation of well, x number of ppl said that… somehow show examples if difference between adapting from necessity and internalizing.

if a young person is in an environment where there are no good examples of certain types of behaviors, I think lot of reading on history, literature and philosophy can help. Important thing to learn is that he doesn’t have to accept the majority or current belief system.

How do you teach your kid what is acceptable behavior? how to talk to them so they don’t internalize bad treatment, especially when it’s from someone with authority. I think you have to show examples of expected behavior and have them reject hierarchy of intrinsic worth in any system

I was wondering why there were so many younger women in that fair. Maybe type of entertainment out there are not appealing to them.

This is cute and clever. We went for walk at the beach and ran into a book fair. fantasy, sci fi, romance. I met an author who writes stories for Insomniacs. I went to look him up on Amazon and saw that it’s an entire genre. But mostly like horror or other kind of night stories. his were wholesome.

He gave violin master classes on zoom during Covid fir free. I couldn’t believe that more people didn’t join. Very articulate, spoke like an actor about emotional expressions. he’s more famous now but in classical music, u can get front seats to these incredible musicians.

I just went to an incredible concert. Haven’t been to one in a while. Small theatre, front seats. it’s bonkers that I can hear people like that up close. Amazing program, playing, emotional depth, energy. I’m high on music. Nothing like live music for me.

It was really uncomfortable for me to put out something promoting my app and seeking feedback. I have all these features and improvements I want to make but they're useless if it doesn't serve what others want as well. Comfortable thing is to keep tweaking in blind. Developing my rejection muscles.

From what I understand some people have extreme magnitude of being stimulated and that’s why they see comfort of familiarity. So although they look different, I think this is spectrum of same but verbal communication are at opposite ends

Golding is able to translate this inner state

Reading Golding’s biography, I’m really struck by his poetry he wrote as a child. Not just this, but there are descriptions of his love of nature and his connection to it. I thought about my non-verbal son and how he is happy on swing staring at the horizon. How he appreciates winds and just being.
