I can't believe I forgot to mention this in my review, but the dub for Trails Beyond the Horizon was fantastic. Not a surprise since the previous games were as well. My only complaint is a few problematic VAs being in the game. Feels like no game is free of that curse these days.

Interesting they are suing over tariffs and not copyright. I guess they felt this one wouldn't be noticed by the administration since probably everyone is suing them over tariffs but suing over copyright would be very obvious and open them to having their employees thrown in a concentration camp.

I made a top 15 Trails characters list a few years ago. I feel I should remake the list but I have no freaking idea how I will do that. My tastes have changed over time and there are a ton of new characters in the Calvard arc.

But it also makes me glad I got into this amazing series. It feels rewarding to make it this far and feel like all the build up was worth it. When it's all said and done, I'm hoping I'll look back on the whole thing and think what a great experience it was. A fantastic entry to this series.

This game was a roller coaster of emotions. Joy, intrigue, dread. It's a weird feeling that there were times I didn't want to play the game because I didn't feel ready for the reveals. And considered I barely got a wink of sleep last night, I was right.

Visually, it's nothing special as usual, since it's a Trails game. And graphics have never been their strong suit. But it's probably the best looking Trails game overall. There are a lot more animated cutscenes that look fantastic, and it makes me excited for the future of the series.

Lots of people hate Mitsuo Singa, but he composed a lot of bangers in this one, including my favorite song in the game, and one of my favorite boss themes in the series. I don't often care for city and dungeons themes outside a set few, but these were noticeably great the whole game.

But since boss fights are both challenging and don't have action combat, that's when the combat truly shined as I was forced to use a variety of different strategies to win. The ost was also a shocker, as I found it to be one of the best in the series.

Unfortunately, the combat is still hindered by action combat, which seems to be here to stay. The moveset is still bland and limited, and only serves to start the battle with an advantage with the enemy stunned. And it's easy to regain CP which makes S craft spam the viable strategy for mobs.

It really forced me to optimize my quartz set ups and make strategies based on them. For example, Van had the Smaug quartz, which made him gain 50 CP each time he's attacked. He's also my tank and my strongest craft user, which made him integral to take hits and dish out damage.

Gameplay was largely a step up as this game was actually challenging throughout on nightmare. Daybreak 1 was super easy and Daybreak 2 was hard for the first half of the game, but easy for the rest of it. Shard commands add another layer to strategy, and enemies actually do damage.

One thing this game does exceptionally well is follow up on ideas and character arcs presented in previous games. It really doesn't feel like there is a single wasted character despite the massive cast. And I can see so much room for growth in the next game.

The reason I say this doesn't feel like a 90% point game is because this feels more like a set up game than a resolution game. Similar to FC, CS1, and CS3, with some crazy shit at the end to make you hate your life until the sequel.

For many people, this is a negative. But I've started doing all the side quests with Calvard, and the side quests continue to be great. The game even rewards you by constantly referencing side quests from the previous games, even in the main story.

It has some of the most glacial pacing in the series. It only takes place over the course of a few days, but it squeezes every possible amount of content out of each hour, to the point where it feels impossible for the characters to do as much stuff as they do in a day.

Trails Beyond the Horizon

I feel the way this game was described is inaccurate. It doesn't feel like this series is at the 90% point. The game raises more questions than it answers, but damn do I want those answers. It's also a long ass game, taking me 108 hours to complete.

So I just finished Trails Beyond the Horizon... Some of my theories were partially confirmed, but now I'm more confused than ever. Media thread tomorrow. I'm tired.

Nice that it has English voice acting at least, unlike past games. The idea of using the concept of SAO but using your own character to progress the story is a cool idea. But I'm not getting my hopes up since it is a game based on an anime. I will likely wait for reviews.

The faces in the new SAO game do a really good job at capturing the style of the anime, but the actual environments kinda look like shit. I don't have high expectations though since games based on anime tend to be cheap cash grabs.
