Well the thing is, Tony is perfectly capable of having a hobby AND making it profitable. Especially in Bridge farmβs situation. They are perfectly set up to do it (w farm shop, direct to consumer sales, plus value-added production if they choose) so why not?
Helen selfish & thoughtlessπ

Yes!
Beef jerky! Itβs huge now.
Seed stock sales!
Direct to consumer meat sales thru CSA veg boxes and farm store - already set up!
So easy to work out

I also donβt have much respect for the way Helen just let the hammer fall on Tony, her father, with zero thought as to how to make an already healthy part of the farm more profitable. No, she preferred to solve this by adding to her own herd. Reminds me of Kate on Home farm π‘

Yeah but this is not realistic. There are SO MANY ways to make cattle super profitable @ Bridge. They can do direct sales - their farm shop & CSA boxes are ALREADY set up directly to consumer! They would just have to do a little marketing to let folks know. They could make beef jerky! Etc #TheArchers

There are many ways to make a profit on oneβs farm. And there are also farmers that are not cut out for certain kinds of production. To each their own.
A good cattle / ruminant grazier is going to make a good profit on their farm and be beneficial to their community and planet at largeπ#TheArchers

Its not really her business, yet.
I liked Miranda very much in how she dealt w/ Kate, & handled Brian.
It gave me the chills the way she was w/Ruari.
I like that Miranda is complex & respect her strengths, while remaining wary of her power & her use of it.
But again, I may be wrongπ€·ββοΈ

A big question to ask is why didnβt both the farm assessor & Archers Ag advisor, & Helen, Pat, Tom & Tony, know that cattle feeds are completely unnecessary in a grassfed system like Bridge. Itβs detrimental in fact. Grassfed cattle are the lowest input/highest profit there.

His family, I should say Helen is behaving like a thoughtless, self-serving gitπ€
She should know that the Angusβs dint need feeds, abd that they are a great, profitable diversification for Bridge Farm.
Shes happy that the Assessment, on the surface, seems to allow her more cowsπ

She could have lied. But why?
If she liked Brad, and no longer Porge, that would have made it harder for her to leave.
Unless, she had a fling in Ireland and thought she NEEDED to lie.

Yeah
I would hope Britain imports nothing from outside. Thereβs no reason they canβt make enough feeds for their poultry & dairy if need be. Itβs not needed it for beef.
GB has the best lands for grassfed-browse production.
I would imagine Bridge would only feed organic feedsβ¦

She does have a right not to be lied to.
Ruairai has a right not to say anything to anyone, if he wants.
Still, focusing on Mirandaβs own actions, I donβt like how she used Ruari there.

Probably didnβt understand all that.
The manure alone from grazing is so valuable for any landβs productivity. It helps new shrubs trees for an and grasses to grow and grow better.

Yes
Predators have to be there. Thatβs why domestic cattle work so well if regeneratively managed.
Itβs all about how animals are kept. It must be a nature-mimicking system.
If no wolves or bears present, then it falls on us humans to be the βpredatorβ and cull wisely.

If the plot line is going to be βTony comes around to realizing he doesnβt need feeds for his cattleβ, then thatβs entirely unrealistic tooπ€¨
Tony would have known from Day 1 that grazing Angus's donβt need feeds.
(I would have expected Helen, Pat and Tom to know that too, but whatevsπ€·ββοΈ)β¦
