The Theresa Matheson Bequest Award is a new annual prize for poets, offering $1,000, mentorship and publication on the AP website to the winning poet. It was established in memory of Theresa Matheson (1972–2022) by her sister, Julie Matheson.

We’re thrilled to announce the winner of the inaugural Theresa Matheson Bequest Award is Martha Kamara, for her poem He Brings Me Flowers, I Bring Him Distance. We also congratulate Eli Ladigies, whose poem The Line of Flight received a Highly Commended recognition.
