Should I get Expedition 33 while it’s still on sale? I’m usually not much of a turn-based rpg person but with how many awards it’s won the genre might not matter too much

And you should still credit the author/creator of modern works as well, especially when they’re directly referenced. Yes, cosmic horror as a genre has been heavily influenced by Lovecraft but that doesn’t mean the genre belongs to him. All the other creatives deserve recognition.

It’s somewhat different with more modern works, as chances are that work was heavily inspired by Lovecraft’s, but for works from around the same period you shouldn’t credit them to Lovecraft when they aren’t tied to him.

This is the world’s most niche pet peeve but I’m so tired of people calling things lovecraftian when they’re directly referencing non-Lovecraft cosmic horror (e.g. the king in yellow). Not all cosmic horror is Lovecraft and other cosmic horror works deserve to be recognized
