When are we to expect newspaper front-page interview features with Dr. Beth Upton about her two-year ordeal of having her right to anonymity removed and her name dragged through the mud and being decried as a sexual predator only for a tribunal to clear her and find SHE was discriminated against?

New Home Office impact assessment finds that cutting skilled and social care visas will cost the UK up to £10 billion with a central estimate of -£5.4 billion.

It would be good if this got even a fraction of the coverage devoted to the endless debate about boats, flags and Turkish barber shops

Nothing worse than signing an email "warm regards" and getting a reply with "warmest regards". Oh, now it's ON.

It's got nothing to do with capitalism. The railway is funded from two sources: the taxpayer and the fare payer. Govt decides what the ratio is. Since 1996 every govt has shifted the burden from taxpayer to fare payer. Other countries eg Ireland swing the other way.

It's a political choice

UK soars past wind power generation record for second time in two months - edie Great Britain’s maximum wind generation record was broken on Friday, 5 December, the National Energy System Operator (NESO) has confirmed.

A new record - on 5 December wind power produced enough electricity for 3/4 of UK homes

At 23.8GW it meant that even during winter peak demand, it was still providing nearly half the country's power needs

Still a way to go though....

Offshore wind has been making waves in the British power system for 25 years, growing to become 🇬🇧’s SECOND largest source of power

Starting with two small turbines in 2000, offshore wind has grown to generate nearly a fifth of British electricity.

*waves* high, I got shingles as an adult and, despite being diagnosed within one week of symptoms, I now have astigmatism in one eye and have to wear glasses as a result.

And I got off lightly

GWR (other than their Pullman services) run XC a close second for their poor first class food offer. That snack box should be a national embarrassment

The XC 1st class offer hasn't been any good since at least Virgin days. Lol, hot food - if you're lucky you *might* be offered porridge with honey for breakfast. I'd say you have a 20% chance on any given day. I always stock up with food at Costa (also crap but at least available) before getting on

Train arrives in plenty of time, due to depart at 1900, gets the right away from signaller at 1900, leaves at... 1904. This is the sort of casual tardiness that the industry needs to clamp down on, it is endemic

According to the boffins at CERN, much of the universe is made of dark matter, which outweighs visible matter roughly six to one and accounts for around 27% of it. A whopping 68% is postulated to be formed of dark energy, which is distributed evenly across the universe and exerts a global effect on it as a whole. Neither can presently be detected and their nature is unknown, yet the most popular and credible scientific theories depend on the existence of something undiscovered to make them work.

Something similar could be said of the Railways Bill, published...

A gay man from a country town once showed me the newspaper column of mine he'd kept in his wallet since (pre-socials) school; it said he was not alone & would find his people. Social media can be a lifeline for kids who're bullied, live in abusive home, or whose hobbies/interests are anti-anxiety.

Anne's walking a half-marathon for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) Help Anne Maningas raise money to support CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)

I've struggled with ideation my whole life, but I'm fortunate to have an amazing support network. Back in September, I signed up to walk a half marathon this coming January 2026 to raise money for CALM, a suicide prevention charity, for those who are struggling.
