There is no reason to keep these instruments away from legal scholars computers. But even if I were willing to sign any NDA or see these only in dedicated computers in some basement, I don't have access to them. We are just to believe that industry knows better, despite all contrary evidence.

We have absolutely no access to standards on reasonable terms. This means that there is no genuine (legal) scholarship on standardisation at a global level, because we simply don't know what they contain. For example, it went all the way to the Court of Justice of the European Union to establish that indeed Volkswagen is liable from intentionally gaming with standard to gain type-approval for its vehicles. Type approval alone did not make the goods non-defective.

This allows your IT solutions to be sold, acquired through public procurement, and be shielded in many jurisdictions against product liability as the service and goods are not defective even if they leak your private information if they are in conformity with the relevant regulation, i.e. standards.

When you do gain access to them, they are mostly just plain silly. But silliness does not matter, because even silly standards will grant you presumption of conformity with the technical specifications, and therewith a presumption of safety (or, in this case, privacy).

International standards are some of the most important regulatory instruments of contemporary global trade. They are ubiquitous and define access to market, safety, and many other regulatory matters. Yet, they are priced to make them inaccessible for researchers.

There are two types of standard research at least in legal scholarship: there's the one that works closely with the standard-setting organisations and provides mostly laudatory account of how great standards are, and then there's the standard research that tries critique without access.

Today there's much ado about new privacy standard from ISO among the corporate privacy types. Us hoi polloi at the universities trying to research these are unlikely to ever see it, for the simple reason shown on the picture. Access to this single standard costs CHF 199 (~250USD; 220 EUR).

I am now genuinely curious how common a sentence fasting was and what was the duration of single fasting that the person was to do every three months? Was it 24 hours or longer? How much to the severity of a punishment adds these four yearly fastings or combined 10 fasting periods?

Reading this 1972 case from the European Commission of Human Rights is wild. The person has been doing some espionage and been sentenced to "two years' and nine months' severe imprisonment with the additional penalty of fasting once every three months."

Näiden päätösten äärellä Turku voi taas seuraavankin vuonna kummastella, miten kaikkien muiden päästölähteiden paitsi liikkumisen hiilidioksidipäästöt on saatu laskemaan. Ja tämäkin asia olisi luvattoman helppo korjata. Ajokielto moottoriajoneuvoille ja tilaa jäisi mainiosti kävellä ja pyöräillä.

Pyörällä kulkiessa Rantakadun pyörätiet ovat ainoat joen suuntaiset pyöräilylle varatut yhtäjaksoiset kaistat. Mutta niin silti vaan kerta toisensa jälkeen autoilijoiden oikeus läpiajoon on monin verroin tärkeämpää kuin pyöräilijöiden ja kävelijöiden oikeus turvalliseen liikenneinfraan.

Kuten kaupunki itsekin uutisessa kertoo, kulttuurilaitosten takaa löytyy parkkipaikkoja ja niitä ollaan rakentamassa lisää. Niille ei voi ajaa Itäisen Rantakadun kautta. Rantakatu on autoille vain yksi monista läpikulkureiteistä halki kaupungin eikä sitä juurikaan edes käytetä.

Kulttuurirannan rakentaminen jatkuu – seuraavaksi katusaneeraus ja rantamuurin korjaus Rakennustyöt Aurajokirannassa jatkuvat. Fuugan ja WAMin valmistuessa päästään peruskorjaamaan katuja. Myös rantamuurin korjaus alkaa keväällä 2026.

Kaupungilla ei ole mitään syytä oikeasti pitää ajorataa avoinna autoille. Ei yhtä ainutta. Siitä huolimatta pyöräilijät ja jalankulkijat laitetaan kiertämään, jotta yksisuuntainen autoliikenne voidaan sallia. Ja näin on tehty kerta toisensa jälkeen.

Täytyy taas oikein ihastella @turku.fi toimintaa. Kaupunki rakensi yksisuuntaiset pyörätiet Itäisen Rantakadun molemmin puolin, uutisoi moneen otteeseen kuinka "pyöräilijöiden takia nyt vähän kaikki kärsivät" ja nyt sitten tässä uutisessa se kertoo, että teitä pääsee käyttämään ehkä jo vuonna 2027.

Tietty me kaikki tiedämme, että siinä ei lue niin vaan siinä lukee, että veroja on leikattava erityisesti yrityksiltä ja rikkailta, jotta yrittelijäisyys säilyy. Samalla on välttämätöntä tukea fossiilisia polttoaineita, koska koko maa on pidettävä asuttuna. Valitettavasti köyhiltä on leikattava.

Kyllähän tässä voi lukea myös, että varallisuusvero takaisin ja tilkitään verotuksen rakenteisiin päässeitä aukkoja, jotta verotaakka jakautuu tasaisesti tulojen ja varallisuuden mukaan. Samalla korotetaan fossiilisten polttoaineiden veroja ja siirrytään kiertotalouteen suurinvestointien avulla.

Eikös argumentti kuitenkin ole ollut, että taloustiede on sellaista tiedettä, että sen tulos on sama katsoo sitä dataa kuka tahansa, koska eihän tässä muuten ole mitään järkeä. Joten miksi ihmeessä oikeasti maksamme paljon VM:n kavereille, kun saman saisi ihan varmasti halvemmalla muualta?
