Separatism is not fringe, its funded:

That said, if a general statement would help there, I could try to add something? Books have always been appreciate d for my research in art, and ebooks just don't cut it for me when it's something complex or philosophical you need to think on, which covers most of the collection at u of a.
19.10.2025 17:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Knowing this I will definitely try to get over there this week to go at least once. I had a few things I found over summer but then got locked out, (ATS, account would not log in) and of course now teaching is the focus so never did manage it. Thank you very much for all of the information you sent!
19.10.2025 17:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's good to know and thanks for link to go through. I'm not sure if my voice would help as much (I'm interested because I had not known about this before traveling to Svalbard in April, and was happy to discover it once back) so I've never actually been to the collection.
19.10.2025 17:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I did not realise that was moving, has that begun or coming up? I had meant to get there this term (although have not managed yet) before now. Glad materials still accessible at least, but part of the fun is always finding one then others nearby on the shelf.
19.10.2025 16:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Several test cyanotype prints with various exposures, one showing Murreysbreen glacier, and the second near Lilliehooke with some sea ice along the glacier front. The images are small, 5x7 inches....but still big enough to see small dots from people within the large snowy landwcape
A closeup of a line of hikers near Murreysbreen, finger pointing out the dark figures against the snow. Dark blue ice becons
A finger points out two figures atop a hillock, dark against the lighter blue snow. Mountain and cloud behind frame the expansive landscape of Svalbard captured here in cyanotype print form
#Cyanotype day. Teeny tiny people in test prints, and if they go well a larger image perhaps.

30.09.2025 20:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me? Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

15.08.2025 04:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A blue cyanotype sits on white towels after being blotted. It is still slightly wet. The enormous face of a glacier with shattered ice, cracks and ice boulders from recent calving can be seen with a thin line of ocean along the bottom. A very small walrus sits on the lower right side. For scale, that is about the height of an average adult human. The image was taken in Svalbard April 2025 as part of the Arctic circle residency.
I am ridiculously happy about this silly walrus finally working out in cyanotype. Sneak peak for next week's show 'Blue' at McMullen Gallery, Edmonton. A show to pause and rest within, I hope. Something very needed.
15.07.2025 23:16 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A watercolour pad shows a painted image of yellow, pink and purple snow on arctic mountains, leading into a glacier in the foreground with bright teal ice. Below the pad of paper is a tin of Stoneground paint and a hand holding the paper in place.

02.06.2025 22:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A large wall of glacier ice towers above the steel grey sea. A small rock outcropping is visible at left, and a small dark brown shape at lower right near sea level. A foolish walrus is sitting right where the glacier will one day calve again. The ice is in shade but still a deeper hint of blue comes through along the glacier face
A calm sea provides a reflection of the glacier, with ice floe drifting in front. The sun is backlighting some of the seracs as they stand vertical, tall, ready to split and melt, and become a new iceberg. Lillihooke glacier in Svalbard
A close up of a small iceberg (called a growler) showing the colour and the ice banding that comes from being under intense pressure when it was a glacier ice. The water is clear and some can be seen underwater as well in shades of blue
A small stretch of open water at sea is filling in and freezing into thin sea ice, pancakes that drift and spin, freezing our ship in place for the night. Midnight sun gives a twilight feel of blues and a hint of orange along the horizon
Iβve been going through images and thoughts from the Arctic Circle residency. It was an incredible trip, and a privilege to spend time in such a beautiful, fragile space, with so many other wonderful humans. Especially right niw, the focus on simply being, and making in that landscape was a gift.

I did not think I would see the northern lights this trip; it will be midnight sun 3 days after arrival to Svalbard. But, the plane was juuuust south enough on the way to Oslo to see these through the night. Magical. (Also my phone, as I did not have the right lens easy to grab. Oops.)
