Octovee was enrolled into the Octarian Army at a very young age. She grew up with the Army's teachings, which greatly influenced her view on the world. Firstly, she was taught how to fight. Her weapon of choice is a pair of Dualies, and she is known to be incredibly acrobatic, which can be seen through her flawless Dodge-Rolls... Secondly, she was taught why she fights. Having lost the Great Turf War against the Inklings, the Octarians โ her people โ have been stuck underground for over 100 years, living a life of poverty. The way she interpreted it, Octovee fought for โfreedomโ. Her meaning of freedom is a bit complex, but the easiest way to explain it would be... the freedom of living on the surface. Thirdly, she learned who she fought for. Not through teachings, but through experience. Her peers were more than โfellow soldiersโ, they were friends & family. To this day, she still remembers many of their names : Hachi, Octaria, Marina, Acht, Octavienne, Manami...
Eventually, the โInkling Invasionโ happened. Though, it was only really one, lone Inkling... Nobody knew of their true name, they were always referred to as Agent 3. This could only mean one thing : the New Squidbeak Splatoon was behind this. The NSS's new recruit, to put it simply, was an Octarian killing machine. They could take on hordes of them on their own, and not even the highest-ranking Elite Octoling Soldiers could stop them. Octovee once met them in person, and it was one of the most terrifying experiences of her life. The Inkling showed no pity for the wounded Octoling who had lost all means to fight. Though, surprisingly, surprising even herself... Octovee did not resent them. She had a theory, but she could not explain, soโ She fled from the scene through a Super Jump, before Agent 3 could land the final blow on her!
Agent 3 did not stop in their tracks. They eventually reached the Octarian Army's leader โ DJ Octavio, Takowasa Shogun โ himself. They fought a fierce battle, until two mysterious Inklings showed up to the scene... and played โthat heavenly melodyโ. This confirmed Octovee's theory. She was right. Inklings were not the vicious predators she was taught about, they're people. Just like her. And they have misconceptions about her kind, too โ they view her the same way she viewed them. But that can change. And it will change, alongside the way she chooses to fight for Octarian freedom... Marina seems to have had a similar revelation. Octovee doesn't know what's going on in her mind, but she knows that Marina will make the right choice. So, as she was running away, Octovee followed her. The two Octolings' encounter with that small, pale Inkling would change their life forever.
Octovee had a small secret, which wasn't really secret. Most, if not all of her friends, already knew about it. Octovee had a passion for music. She would often visit Acht for musical advice, and they would play around with synthesizers together. Marina would also join in, and the three even came up with usernames to go by as musicians. DJ Hyperfresh, DJ Dedf1sh, and... DJ Octo. Sure, Octovee's username wasn't very original, but she argued that DJ Octavio's naming skills weren't that much better, anyway! Just... don't let him know she said that, okay?
