oh thank god we're not getting a time jump right away. i'm okay with time jump later on to get us back but i hate when there's a break and it's like "look at everything that happened!"

They were definitely gonna do the Maddie kidnapping story as a cliffhanger. But because the midseason finale was early, they had to push it back and find something else to fill the gap. And that’s where the cop cart storyline came in.
