AOC: We already have multiple American service members who are dead for an illegal action that the president has pursued with no plan out. They don’t know why they got into this war. They’re talking about a hundred different reasons, and they don’t know how they’re getting out.

It is no accident of language that the presidents’ lawyers do not themselves determine whether he has constitutional authority to act — in other words, whether his wars are legal. Instead, they leave that to him. The president “could decide” is the new OLC theory of war powers.

In contexts from Iran to Venezuela, to boat strikes at sea to deportations without process to sending troops into U.S. cities, the President has been claiming the absolute, unreviewable authority to determine whether we are at war, have been invaded, whether there’s a threat. No matter the evidence.

Very important thread. He is not talking like this by accident; it reads like a lawyered response. Unfortunately, the legal theory is that he gets to decide when and how the US gets to use military force and no one can second-guess him.

Authoritarian religious institutions are designed by and for people who want to commit abuse. The abuses are not "sin," in the sense of being a violation of someone's intent. They are the goal, from the beginning.
