The economist was given a free hand: he was permitted to halt all of eBay’s ads on Google for three months throughout a third of the United States. Not just those for the brand’s own name, but also those targeted to match simple keywords like "shoes", "shirts" and "glassware". The marketing department anticipated a disaster: sales, they thought, were certain to drop at least 5%. Week 1: All quiet. Week 2: Still quiet. Week 3: Zip, zero, zilch. The experiment continued for another eight weeks. What was the effect of pulling the ads? Almost none. For every dollar eBay spent on search advertising, they lost roughly 63 cents, according to Tadelis’s calculations. The experiment ended up showing that, for years, eBay had been spending millions of dollars on fruitless online advertising excess, and that the joke had been entirely on the company.

oh okay honestly i thought Arc was what the A stood for and Battlemage was what the B stood for, so Battlemage replaced Arc. but apparently A was Alchemist. i guess if arc stays the same then that fixes it but this isn't exactly clear either!!

i'm not saying amd's is "good" it's just better than A580 and B580 and so on. i accept that it solves the 9->10 problem elegantly but at the very least they should stick an I or a T or a ITX or something up front, that stays the same for every card

because the letter is the anchor! if i hear "rtx" i think "this is going to be an nvidia gpu number next". when i hear "B" or "C" or "F" i think "this is a product that is unfamiliar to me". i can say "rtx 3060" without "nvidia". i can't say "D580" without "intel" and not just cause they're new guys

i figured it would naturally be "the A590" or "the A680" but when i saw the B for the first time i genuinely laughed out loud. deranged branding. anyway i had an ati radeon 9700 pro as a child so the 9070 XT has some nostalgia for me. little scrimblo card

okay but this is still better than the intel gpu naming scheme. i think ten out of ten people would get the question "what card is the successor to the A580" wrong
