Oh, I thought, what has he said now, and then looked it up. Sigh. And you're right, he could be a venerated talent who lifts up people coming after him, but, no. Sigh.

This is an example of one of the Toronto area cinemas (the others are the York and the Woodside, all owned by the same people). I grew up in this part of Toronto, when I lived there it was part of the Cineplex chain, then it was bought out to bring in Indian films. www.albioncinema.ca

There's a group near where I live that brings in Malayalam and occasionally Tamil movies -- they rent out a rep theatre. Again, more expensive tickets than a chain cinema, and also really terrible times, as they're trying to work around the films the rep theatre is already showing.

In Toronto region, there are a group of cinemas that only screen Indian movies -- though they can also be rented out by groups who manage to get the rights to screen the film. You'll find that the ticket prices are really expensive (I've seen $25 or more for a ticket) in that case.

When it goes to streaming, it's likely to be on an Indian streamer, maybe Zee5.

I really think it's a distribution thing. It's well known that Netflix refuses to buy the rights for Kannada films, and I think unless you have a substantial Kannada speaking community, it's less likely to see a film brought in (often community groups do that).

I just checked the Toronto area theatre that only show Indian films and it’s there. But they’re also gearing up for some bigger films. And Kannada films don’t get great distribution.
