In a press statement today, the members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks in Pakistan on 31 January. They reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation.

Under the UK's presidency in February, the Security Council will discuss Yemen, Syria, Libya, Sudan and the Middle East Peace Process. Members will also hold a briefing on threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.

This week, a unified Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) under the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO) has been established. The Office will ensure that security gains are reinforced by institutions and development.

In the Security Council today, ASG Pobee reiterated the SG's call for respect for rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly in Iran. She called on the government to halt any executions linked to protest-related cases.
