Its actually an acrylic painting, I mainly use the soft pastel sticks to smooth out some of the transitions and to cover up mistakes. Once done, I spray with a fixative spray, which I get from Walmart.

Mainly the dress is acrylic. The color isn't pure white, but "bone"...a kind of yellowish white. after it is completely dry, I come back and lightly darken the folds with gray pastel sticks. I then use an ebony pencil to get a few dark lines for depth.
