That's true. They're working so hard to eliminate the notion (and problem) of legitimacy from politics. Once, they've done this this is going to be number 1 in their new constitution.

Good thread about Ekrem Imamoglu's (arrested presidential candidate of the main opposition party in Turkey) trial and what's at stake for the regime.

Today, the biggest case against Ekrem Imamoglu, the arrested presidential candidate of the main opposition party (CHP) in Turkey begins. The case includes more than 400 people together with him. Shameful day for democracy..

So, maybe this is what happens when you actually start changing people's lives step by step and make them feel that it's happening, their life matters and everbody deserves a nice life.

Restoring order at the border speaks to Labour values. Without that, we won’t be able to do anything else at all | Shabana Mahmood Our approach, unlike that of the Greens and Reform, is in step with the British people. They don’t want extremes – they want a system that is managed and fair, says home secretary Shabana Mahmood

I'm not goung to say anythjng about the shallowness of the arguments here. I'm tired and life is hard enough. Only one thing: no matter how hard they work on their comm strategy they would get no one to believe that a person who says working hard should lead to+

Your regular reminder than a large majority of voters - and overwhelming majority of Labour voters - favour giving settled migrants access to the welfare state after five years or less. The Home Secretary is not reforming rules in line with public opinion. She is doing the opposite.

They didn't see the alternative would emerge from their left. They made a fatal strategic mistake.

a nice life is an extreme person. They'd get no one to believe that Greens and Reform are the two sides of the same coin. They'll be gone soon but the sad thing is, in the meantime, like previous governments they making changes that'd effect lives and faith of thousands of desperate people. Cruel!

You see how things seem impossible are actually possible. We do love things that makes us feel better than we are, not worse. this is the key for politics.

James Butler | Just Voting The Green Party’s Hannah Spencer has won the Gorton and Denton by-election with 41 per cent of the vote. Progressive...

β€˜β€œI don’t think it’s extreme or radical to think that working hard should get you a nice life,” Hannah Spencer said. The speech could once easily have been delivered by a centre-left Labour politician.’

This is a real source of anxiety for the regime in Turkey. It didn't start with Iran but the situation in Iran amplifies it.

This is not a reasoned political response. Labour has spent two years making all the voting groups who backed the Greens feel unwelcome and unheard, and now attacks them for daring to back someone else. They believe Labour isn’t listening and Starmer seems determined to prove them right

Struck by how Hannah Spencer's brilliant victory speech is a broadside against neoliberal meritocracy – like so many other (esp. female working-class) voices right now. This is exactly what Bev Skeggs & I discuss in our new article, 'Social Mobility is a Joke':
