The second Black drum major for UT was Kenon A. Brown, who served in the role in 2004. He plays the baritone.

The first Black drum major for UT was Brion Randolph, who served in the role in 1992 and again in 1993. Randolph, who is from South Carolina, majored in nuclear engineering. He plays clarinet.

The University of Tennessee’s Pride of the Southland Band’s 2024 drum major is Christian Carroll, of Collierville. Carroll is only the third Black drum major in the Pride’s 155-year history. The band has 415 members currently.
