Next Fest Sprint Day 11 - Look at those upgrades go!

The upgrade menu shows more info. Also tuned damage/health values for stuff. Spent time making menus navigable with controller. Serialized level progress into player saves. As always, little improvements here and there as well

Next Fest Sprint Day 10
Parallax scrolling in backgrounds, improved art, made the map generate more stuff with depth, added text showing what you've mined and how much it's worth (and its rarity). Lots of little tweaks here and there. Almost feels like a real video game

Next Fest Sprint Day 9

Well I came down with a cold last night and got like 3 hours of sleep, so huge shout out to illness.

Anyway, I got the landfill (first level) looking WAY better than it was before. I'm sweating and I don't want to use my computer anymore. God damn cold

Next Fest Sprint Day 8

The shop gets a fat upgrade. Changed it from being a boring list to a talent tree. Complete with dependencies and tooltip window. I want it to show a bit more info (prices, missing dependencies, etc) but on the bright side it can be moved around and zoomed.

Next Fest Sprint Day 7 - Perlin Noise

Added more ore types, tweaked some color palettes, and fixed a shit load of bugs in the map. Then I added some noise to the map generation to break things up a bit. If you squint you can see there's coal too (okay the colors could be better)

Next Fest Sprint Day 6 - The Shop Works
Purchasable upgrades are in the shop! And thanks to yesterday you KNOW that shit is saved. That said, I'm not in love with the look. This is likely going to be more in the style of an upgrade tree. Maybe tomorrow

Next Fest Sprint Day 5 - The data is real now

Hey look the file select screen actually selects a file now! And it's loading the money on that save file (as well as player stats and shit like that).

Tomorrow's focus is giving you a way to buy stuff with this newfangled serialized money

Next Fest Sprint Day 4 - Menu Hell

Spent today getting all the logic for menus in and finding new and creative ways to trigger NullReferenceExceptions.

Tomorrow: persistent data (don't tell the cops but the file select menu is fake)

After that: make the game fun

Next Fest Sprint Day 3

Added some floating damage numbers and camera shake. If you can reach the bottom and break through the bedrock before the time limit, you unlock the next level with higher value ores and new artifacts. A bit jank, but I'm done for the day lol

Next Fest Sprint Day 2
Particles and jitter to ground destruction and changed the game to consist of timed runs per level. Tomorrow is gonna be a big one: the bottom of each map will have bedrock that you have to break in time to reach the next level. Upgrades between runs after. #gamedev #unity

Day 1 - Better Player

Using penzilla.itch.io/protagonist-... as a base that I'm gonna alter for the final game. Jump physics feel way better, got some squash/stretch and the anim logic feels solid.

Day 2 will be focusing on polishing the land rather than it just disappearing lol
