As always, we will continue to evaluate our funds, services, and statistics, and we will inform the public of any other changes to services that become necessary.

We thank the public for its patronage, understanding, and support of the Livingston Parish Library.

We realize these service changes may come as unfortunate news to many of our patrons, but please know that the Library remains committed to delivering high-quality, professional services while maximizing all available resources.

They will defund our library. If you live in Livingston Parish, contact ALL of the Parish Council and ask that they remove the board members working against the library staff and our residents (with their own twisted agenda).

They cannot be allowed to continue to defund and degrade our libraries.

This is what happens when local government becomes far right in their agenda. This is currently happening in Livingston Parish, La.

This is just the beginning of what the library board is planning.

The ENTIRE Livingston Parish Council NEEDS to be aware that they ARE being viewed by the entire nation to see if they are becoming the

outpouring of emails to Mr. Chavers and Mr. Taylor showing that the entire nation is watching the parish council members and the Library Board of Control members to see if the community is slowly becoming the fictional city of Oceania from George Orwell's 1984. We also have to remember that the

had individuals of our parish attempt or even intimidate and harass librarians and past members of the board who have opposed the right/far-right beliefs.

Former members of the board who were removed have been called groomers and pedophiles on social media.

More than ever, there needs to be an

Chavers and Taylor said they would appoint their new members at the next Parish Council meeting Dec. 5. (This is decision NEEDS to be made with the knowledge that the new members represent the entire district.)

I personally believe that current members of the Library Board of Control have

and Mr. Chavers MUST be reminded that they represent their ENTIRE community, including the diverse community members such as the different religious, non-religious, and the LGBTQIA, along with others that don't fall into the traditional right/far-right community.)

our professionals, our educated and trained professionals to handle those situations,” Gonzalez said.Β

It is up to parish councilmen Billy Taylor and Ryan Chavers to fill the two library board vacancies, possibly ending the stalemate by seating all nine board members. (Mr. Taylor

be making these choices. (I agree wholeheartedly with this statement as most times the leaders of these communities, especially a right/far-right community like ours is less tolerant of those that dont align with their beliefs or views.)

β€œWe need to just trust our librarians and trust our staff,

Jordan Gonzalez, parish resident, argued the community is bigger than those who attend the board meetings and those who attend church, and ultimately the librarians should

24.11.2024 07:19 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

because the library is funded from the community’s property taxes, the community should choose what books are appropriate.

β€œWe pay for this library, it's our library. We would like our library toΒ representΒ our parish, our values,” he said. (If you notice, Mr. Gunter seemed to forget that the "we"

reading the passage. β€œIt's sexually explicit and it needs to be moved.” (Mr. Cowell read the passages as if he was preaching from the pulpit about fire and brimstone and to me, had showed a perversed pleasure in the passages he was reading.)

Brian Gunter, parish resident and pastor,Β said that

like them, helped them at that age.)

Trey Cowell, a local pastor, led the charge to move the books, reading a graphic passage detailing sexual acts from β€œMe and Earl and the Dying Girl” to the room.Β

β€œIt's a shame that people had to fight to get these books on the agenda,” Cowell said after

nominated for president. Both received a 4-4 vote, (to me, Mr. Davis lacks the knowledge, empathy, or understanding of the entire community and is more passionate about ostracizing the rest of community, especially LGBTQIA community, than being welcoming.)

The board approved moving books β€œMe and

Another, even more polarizing vote was for the election of board of control officers. Larry Davis and Labat were both

residents including people of color, people of other religions and people from the LGBTQIA community.)

Some critics of the new board, like the Livingston Parish Library Alliance community group, said the stalemate is part of a larger effort to disrupt the libraries.
