Been meaning to share this mixed media collage I made some time ago

There were apparently some artists back then that were inspired by Ganbreeder and did their own art/paintovers based off of the generated images from that site. Hell, the artwork for Red Vox's Realign album was based off of a Ganbreeder image. This is wild to think about with the stigma AI has today

There are of course several valid criticisms of the tech and how it's being developed and used to this day. I just wish I knew how to feasibly and reliably make art that looks like early Ganbreeder images, and unfortunately it seems to be much easier said than done.

Honestly, I think the interest I had in generative AI prior to it becoming a huge problem around the time Dall-E came out was the reason why a lot of the AI discourse was aggravating me a lot and made me stop browsing Bluesky since I kept seeing it in my feed from people I've been following.

The reason I made these is because I genuinely miss the earlier years of generative AI back when it could only produce images that were too incoherent to be a threat to people's livelihoods and as a result they actually looked interesting. This was my attempt at recapturing that sort of look by hand

Rika and Rika! Right Rika is leaning forward and has a Pocky in her mouth. Left Rika is hitting a smug expression with her finger to her chin. I realized hours later that Left Rika looked like Pepe the Frog and fell to my knees, screaming to the heavens and cursing the gods.

Rika jumpscare! Rika is coming up behind Grusha and surprising him. He is looking back into Rika's eyes. Rika's chin is nestled in Grusha's clavicle area and her arms are around his waist. Grusha's arms are slightly lifted in surprise.

Grusha, Rika, and a Paldean Wooper are seated and watching a film! Grusha is holding a bowl of popcorn in one hand and a handful of popcorn in the other. Rika is to the right, drinking a sodie pop. They're both leaning into each other. The Wooper sits between them, looking like he has just witnessed every single one of Earth's natural wonders at once.

In the top-left, the Rika is demonstrating her dominance over the Grusha as she puts her weight on top of him. The Grusha attempts to retaliate with his powerful fists of fury, but he is no match for Rika's incredible endurance. In the bottom right, the Rika cares for her Grusha by sucking excess moisture from his face. The process looks uncomfortable, but it is actually a common practice and is natural for the Grusha. Nature is beautiful.
