Many areas important to me and to our future are being attacked, dismantled and/or defunded. Millions of lives are starting to or about to be upended. So many new problems are being created with no precursor issue. All the while current problems are being ignored or downplayed. What’s the point? What did we gain? Was it worth all that we’re losing? I’d love to just chalk up these feelings as “overdramatic” but it’s all laid out in black and white. Checks and balances are being dissolved. Not only that, these actions are being celebrated. I'm beyond sick, I'm beyond tired. Try to keep a part of your heart reserved for other people. Treat people how you want to be treated. Try to never look at others as subhuman or to generalize anyone as less than. I used to think that was the bare minimum of decency but here we are.

Time to numb my brain and heart for a few years.

I've accomplished a lot this year... but I'd give it all away to cure my loved one’s pain. I'd trade it all to bring the ones we've lost back. Unfortunately, that's not how life works, so I'll try to celebrate for the ones who can't anymore, even when it's bittersweet.
