My use of bluesky is admittedly fairly sporadic, I've never really had the knack for committing to social media.

But know I do appreciate the birds, even if I don't always remember to like the posts πŸ˜…

A Pivot To Indie won’t save us – AURAMBLES

Anyway I'm not touching that post again it's way too fuckin viral but if you want to read more of my thoughts on why I feel that "pivot to indie" is not the clean solution everyone wants it to be, I wrote about it at length last year here: auratriolo.com/blog/2025/01...

'We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.' - Beautifully put.

That's true as well.

Human vision is weird and a lot of what we see is actually predictive. I'm sure some people can notice a 4 ms difference but I have a hard time believing it becomes unbearable without it. Past a certain point I'm sure basically everyone on earth couldn't tell.

I feel like there's got to be diminishing returns for everyone sooner or later. I can't really tell the difference going between 120 and 144.

For games though inconsistent frame times are generally worse than lower frame rates, to a point anyway.

I don't think I ever posted these here so here are some xenomorph minis I painted for an IRL Destroyer of Worlds game a while back.

I've gotten a new phone since then so I can finally take some half-decent photos.

Unfortunately people do genuinely enjoy The Game Awards in it's current form. It gets viewership in the millions every year.

One thing I've noticed in all my various friend circles is none of them buy new AAA games anymore... Okay one dude does...

But the others are not buying a single one in the last few years.

People are playing their backlog in droves rn

Those guys aren't really cringe tbh. They are completely earnest nerds and that makes them fun to watch. Like as much of a meme as Tom Scott's presentation style is, you can't hate him for it. He seems like someone I'd enjoy meeting.

NDT comes across to me as a very unlikeable person.

I wasn't sure what you meant then realised the actual final fight is the Proper Noun lady and not Escharum. I'd completely blanked her existence.

Cameron is still a rock solid director. He knows how to make entertaining movies. I just wish he had someone to curb his excesses.

"How remote now and hidden perhaps for ever were the shining waters of Helford, the green hills and the sloping valleys, the white cluster of cottages at the water's edge. It was a gentle rain that fell at Helford, a rain that patterned in the many trees and lost itself in the lush grass, formed into brooks and rivulets that emptied into the broad river, sank into the grateful soil which gave back flowers in payment.
This was a lashing, pitiless rain that stung the windows of the coach, and it soaked into a hard and barren soil. No trees here, save one or two that stretched bare branches to the four winds, bent and twisted from centuries of storm, and so black were they by time and tempest that, even if spring did breathe on such a place, no buds would dare to come to leaf for fear the late frost should kill them. It was a scrubby land, without hedgerow or meadow; a country of stones, black heather, and stunted broom."

This entire passage had me floored. Gotta love Helford as a sort of Shire-esque demi-Eden and Bodmin moor as a wind-blasted sodden purgatory. Absolutely based, 10/10 book so far.

I'm reading Jamaica Inn and it's giving me great pleasure how in the very first chapter Du Maurier describes the sheer misery and bleakness of having to leave behind idyllic Helston and travel north to the wild and hostile lands of... *shudders* Bodmin

I know people meme on Avatar being really forgettable but I really like the first film. I was still kind of interested where they were going after the second one and the answer is... Nowhere. Nothing of consequence really happens in this film. It's a three hour filler episode!

I saw Fire and Ash yesterday and it's... Fine. It really needed to end like 40 mins sooner and it's kinda just a mashup of the first two movies. Effects are still great.
