Lib Dems will β€˜almost undoubtedly’ win more seats than Tories, says top pollster Sir John Curtice made the stark warning at a fringe event at the Conservative party conference

And here: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli.... Don’t think he promised to eat any books if proved wrong though.

Just deleted my academia.edu account after 17 (!) years -- the company's exploitative new terms of use are outrageous, and it's a shame such a blatant commercial sell-out is able to operate under the .edu top-level domain. If you are still on academia.edu, please consider deleting your account too.

The roots of the British malaise lie in a sick economy Political responses to a bad situation tend towards either charlatanism or timidity

Martin Wolf: According to the IMF, the trend growth of GDP per head in the UK had been 2.5 per cent a year from 1990 to 2007: then, between 2008 and 2025, it was just 0.7 per cent. on.ft.com/4lf4OyV The roots of the British malaise lie in a sick economy

Most Literature Reviews Miss the Point. Don’t Let Yours Critically Engaging Past Work to Confidently Shape Your Own

Most literature reviews miss the point.

Not because they’re sloppy.

But because they treat the literature like a box to tick.

In my latest Respect the Marble Post, I carve out a 6-step process to writing a meaningful lit review:

Very pleased to see my co-authored piece with Patrick Diamond for @bjpir.bsky.social published!

We use the case of the UK since 1945 to show that fiscal orthodoxy, macroeconomic prudence, and even 'austerity' can, in certain conditions, be pursued by the left as well as right.

The core trilma here remains the same - the govt needs to accept one of three things: high student migration, higher domestic student fees (or higher taxes to fund universities) or university bankruptcies. Those are the only options, given where we are. Pick one.
