…Inauguration Day and Dr. King’s birthday, I am reminded of Dr. King’s call to align power with love. This alignment requires me to use my voice and my actions for justice. Protecting creation, and advocating for the most vulnerable are all ways I can embody King’s vision of justice.

This kind of power rights wrongs, uplifts the oppressed, providing a stark contrast to the power often seen in our political & social systems, which divides & exploits.

As I reflect on the convergence of…

…love in action. He taught that true power is rooted in agape—a selfless, unconditional love that seeks justice for others, not for personal gain.

John Wesley (founder of Methodism) said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

Martin Luther King Jr. understood power not as domination or fear but as…

…and of taking action for their safety and protection.

Jesus said that the second most important command in the universe is to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:28-34) – and that my neighbor is whomever crosses my path with a need that I can do something about (Luke 10:25-37).

…women from any community–are likely to face the reversal of legal protections & much of the progress they’ve made toward inclusion & equality.

May I–as a Christian, and as a person of compassion–continue to make the choice to do the hard work of showing up for my community…

Many in our community are experiencing the heaviness of recent events and a range of emotions including fear, anger, sadness, grief, hopelessness, & exhaustion – these emotions are real.

♥️Challenging policies that call for the separation of families, especially parents &minor children.
♥️Opposing the existence of for-profit detention centers that are used for the purpose of detaining migrants, immigrants, &refugees including minor children.

♥️Opposing all laws &policies that attempt to criminalize, dehumanize or punish displaced individuals &families based on their status as migrants, immigrants or refugees.
♥️Decrying attempts to detain displaced people &hold them in inhumane &unsanitary conditions.

♥️Urging one another to welcome migrants, refugees, and immigrants into our congregations, providing concrete support, to them including help with navigating restrictive and often lengthy immigration policies, and assistance with securing food, housing, education, employment &other kinds of support.

♥️Affirming the dignity, worth and rights of migrants, immigrants and refugees.
♥️Recognizing that displaced people are particularly vulnerable as their in-between status often provides them with few protections and benefits, leaving them open to exploitation, violence and abuse.
