Affordable housing for migrants faces headwinds. NYC thinks disclosing locations of migrant faciities should be illegal. Stricter than DHS/ICE.

Advocates to MTA: More Fare Caps Will Be Fairer For All - Streetsblog New York City The MTA has not introduced daily or monthly OMNY fare caps, even as it phased out daily and monthly MetroCards.

Streetsblog spoke to ETA about monthly caps. While better, ETA recommends steeply-discounted prepaid monthlies.

Before OMNY, a NY monthly pass cost 46 rides. In contrast, the Continental European range is 15-30, encouraging ridership while discouraging evasion.

Some aggregator syndicator offering 100 stories a month for $10 might work if they aggregated really broad coverage.

A beauty of prediction markets is they work with small and /or biased populations. Also a great way to leak out insider info.

department of things that make me feel like i'm having a stroke: the long island railroad killed round-trip tickets. if i'm visiting family overnight, i now have to buy 2 1-way tickets that only work on day of purchase. #nyc

MTA #LIRR have surveys.

Resist letting them off easy.

Management under Hochul would rather pretend to 'be clarifying' wrongheaded, unpopular practices, in an attempt to exhaust, outlast, and assuage their customers, instead of fixing their broken policy.

Incoming skilled immigration requirements don’t need to specify which skill is required, just that the skill is valuable. EG., pay $1 million income tax in advance, be granted a five year visa.

A head tax generalizes such a flow.

Separate but equal is good enough for me. If cars can loop around a city at 35 to 85 mph, #bikeNYC cyclists should be able to legally attempt the same.

What does "crashed into a bus stop" mean ?

Buses drive (are driven) into the bus stop every 10 minutes. Very normal and proper.

Is the bus stop where the bus stops (typically on the roadway), or is it where the passengers wait (typically on the sidewalk) ?

Automobile crash reporting too often skips over the facts of what happened and picks up a vengeful tone to ask why weren’t the survivors jailed. All this while never diagramming the incident.

Did this driver leave the roadway and, with her car, hit pedestrians on the sidewalk ?

HB2454 makes bicycles intended users (rather than permitted) of a roadway, excluding interstates or controlled access highways. This allows bikers to hold the city accountable for hazards on all roads, not only bikeways.

When Buses Are Free but Trains Aren't — Human Transit I’m in Bloomberg CityLab with a piece on the dangers of applying free fares to buses but not to trains in the same city.  Key quote: When we encourage people to get off trains and onto parallel buses,...

Can buses be free but not the subway? I explained to this problem back in ‘22, and it sounds like more folks would benefit from this piece. Pls share.

It is customary to use yellow on the left edge of the roadway. Perhaps yellow is more requisite where one-way segments lead to two-way segments.

LA is a failed city. Free money but they have to give it back because they were incapable of spending it in a reasonable timeframe. There’s basically nothing the city can do right anymore.

Higher ceilings (building height per floor) also prefered by people who need ductwork for central air conditioning, and not weak window or wall-sleeve units.
