For hardening existing #bikelanes with concrete curbs and sturdier reflective posts, e.g., in LIC, Queens, on Vernon, Crescent, and Northern Blvd, @nyc-dot.bsky.social of 2021-2025 deserves fair credit.

Maximizing conflicts with pedestrians is due to DOT, not #bikeNYC.

Delightful and useful Third Avd Manhattan #bikeNYC wide bikelane design was simple, cheap, and fast to implement.

Streetscape public realm projects in Queens were claimed to benefit cyclists, but reality is worse.

DOT #BicycleBoulevards decimate cycling. Contorting bends, obscuring corners, pushing #bikeNYC from one side of the street to the other, while narrowing cycling lanes, strewing random hazards adjacent to remaining bike lanes, and maximizing conflicts with pedestrians.
All for >$50 million per mile!

When no acoustic bikes are available, Citibike members can get a white ebike for 45(+?) minutes at half-power for free.

Beware of short decorative curbs and street furniture that line and are said to "protect" the bike path when the ground is covered by a few inches of snow.

Long live full #Jersey barriers with retroreflective poles.

Blue shows #suburbanization of poverty ? Is NE Queens disadvantaged economically?

Also not appropriate for video screens, which otherwise announce train arrival/destination/sxhedule/connection/configuration info.

Passenger watches the screen, then it is jarred as image on screen changes. But not new different changed train info; only, advert for breakfast cereal (or whatever).

Capitalism makes cops of us all: The dynamics of Green Line T fares | The Dissenting Opinion In a state that spent over $20 billion on highway expansions, the MBTA’s obsession with a two-dollar fare is a choice, not a necessity. If the MBTA were to be at risk of financial ruin because broke c...

Seems notable newspapers keep having to turn to lawyers (and law students) to write anti-fare op-eds, instead of, you know, transit experts.

The frustrating thing is that we’ve known about this for so long, and yet it continues, and in some places, is even growing. This paper was published by the Yale Law Journal when I was still in diapers (and I’m a middle-aged man with a half-white beard):

Advocates to MTA: More Fare Caps Will Be Fairer For All - Streetsblog New York City The MTA has not introduced daily or monthly OMNY fare caps, even as it phased out daily and monthly MetroCards.

Streetsblog spoke to ETA about monthly caps. While better, ETA recommends steeply-discounted prepaid monthlies.

Before OMNY, a NY monthly pass cost 46 rides. In contrast, the Continental European range is 15-30, encouraging ridership while discouraging evasion.

Some aggregator syndicator offering 100 stories a month for $10 might work if they aggregated really broad coverage.
