BBC News to create AI department to offer more personalised content Boss says BBC News’s reach is ‘defying gravity’ and it must use AI to ‘support and accelerate our growth’

BBC News has told staff it is creating a new "growth, innovation and AI" department focused on under-25s and news avoidance, with measures that "could include deploying AI to curate stories for users on their phones based on their previous consumption"

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been elected as the new director of the Institute of Media and Journalism at my university. It’s a pleasure to take on this role in an institute that’s not only a hub of academic excellence, but also a community of exceptional people, and I’m grateful to be part of it

Swiss president: Vance speech a ‘plea for direct democracy’ Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter has described US Vice President JD Vance’s speech at the Security Conference in Munich as a “plea for direct democracy”.

There are similar trends in Switzerland, but in our case it was the current Swiss president(!) stating that Vance’s speech was “a plea for direct democracy”…

This is even more important to remember in the light of Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter’s absurd statement that Vance’s speech was a “plea for direct democracy”, admitting that she shares many of the values mentioned by Vance.

The Federal Council aims to save 460 million CHF annually in research & education and to this end is pushing universities to drastically increase tuition fees. Apart from undermining equal opportunities, it’s short-term thinking, it endangers🇨🇭innovation and further increases pressure on scientists.

Swiss government wants to adopt Council of Europe AI conventions The Swiss government wants to incorporate the Council of Europe's conventions on artificial intelligence (AI) into Swiss law.

This is interesting because where legislative amendments are necessary, they should be as sector-specific as possible. Curious to see how that will evolve in the media sector. www.swissinfo.ch/eng/swiss-po...
