1/ Located in Monoceros, about 5,200 light-years away, the Rosette (NGC 2237) looks like an enormous cosmic flower suspended in the dark.
I re-shot it after three years with my current setup and the result is probably the most extraordinary set of images I’ve produced so far. 🔭

A star trail is a photographic effect that captures the apparent motion of stars across the night sky as a series of luminous streaks or arcs. This visual phenomenon is actually a direct result of Earth's rotation on its axis rather than the movement of the stars themselves. In the Northern Hemisphere, stars circle Polaris (the North Star), which remains almost stationary.
Last night delivered a perfect sky for #astrophotography so I left my smart scope out to capture a four hour star trail, centred on Polaris. Notice - not a single plane or satellite! #astronomy @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

The Horsehead and Flame Nebula.
55 years ago I saw an image of the Horsehead in a book on Astronomy, that image sparked a lifetime love of the subject.
This is 1 hour of data from last night in SHO.

The Double Cluster is a spectacular pair of open star clusters in the constellation Perseus. Known individually as NGC 869 (h Persei) and NGC 884 (χ Persei), they lie about 7,500 light-years from Earth.
Here is a quick #doublecluster taken with the #seestar S30, last time it was clear. I am currently trying to get this with the #Redcat71 but the weather isn’t playing nice #Astrophotography

22.02.2026 11:18 — 👍 5 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0The horse head and flame nebulae are shown on the right and left sides of the image respectively. The horsehead appears as a dark, profile view of a horses head in a deep red field of dust. Between the flame and the horsehead is a very bright star named Alnitak. Alnitak is a massive pain to work around due to just how bright it is. The flame nebula has lots of dark structures running through its core, giving it the appearance of fire.
With all the downtime I had this winter, I was starting to think I’d fully miss out on the Orion targets. Either way, after 2 months of hardware problems here’s the Horsehead!
I’ve always wanted to shoot this one but just never had a good opportunity in the pnw.

In Greek myth, Orion fell in love with the "Seven Sisters". To escape, they prayed to Zeus, who transformed them into doves and flung them into the sky, forming the Pleiades.

The Owl Nebula (M97) is a tiny planetary nebula 1.82 ly across located ~2030 ly away in Ursa Major (Big Dipper)
A planetary nebula is a glowing shell of ionized gas formed when a dying star sheds its outer layers
It does look like an owl

Owl Nebula is a planetary nebula with multiple shells that give it an owlish appearance-- an outer sphere and an inner torus-like structure. The Surfboard Galaxy is a jumbled ness of star forming patches and evidence of past interactions with the Universe's interstellar tides.
After weeks of rain -- the Owl Nebula soars high above the Surfboard Galaxy, which surfs enormous interstellar tides.

The Dolphin Head nebula in Canis Major constellation, photographed from my terrace
1/ The Dolphin Head (Sh2-308) is an emission nebula in the Canis Major region: a huge bubble created by material expelled by the star WR6, swept by its powerful stellar wind.
It’s also a target that drove me crazy for four years before I finally started to get a grip on it. ➡️
