Pax Christi USA response to military strikes onΒ Iran March 1, 2026 β€” Pax Christi USA, the national Catholic peace movement, condemns the horrific bombing of Iran by the US and Israel, and we urge our nation’s leaders to stop the violence. As we recall the words from the daily readings of February 28, when the gospel reminds us to love our enemies (Matthew 5:43-48), our hearts break for the loss of life and the extraordinary damage being inflicted not only on the people of Iran but also communities throughout the region who are affected by retaliatory strikes.

Read our statement on the immoral and illegal bombing of Iran. These attacks by the US and Israel are catastrophic – they will profoundly undermine any attempt at diplomacy and peacebuilding. We pray for an end to the violence, a cessation of the bombing, and for an embrace of nonviolent solutions.

Manchester United fans display a pro-immigration banner, in response to comments from the club's minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe told Sky News: "The UK has been colonised by immigrants".

The banner features several foreign players to have represented the clubπŸ‘‡

What from Freud onwards the great psychologists can teach us about living in an anxiety ridden world!

Terrible. Feel for the boy Murray. But those are two brilliant finishes. We have not competed. Number of our players have not coped with the atmosphere. It’s an embarrassing performance all round. Long needed a real combative DM in midfield! Here’s hoping we remember who and where we are in 2nd half!

If Keir Starmer is the question (and it is!) then Wes Streeting is not the answer! A man who believes in nothing but politics as a game and his own ruthless ambition!

πŸ“– Weekend reading!
There are 160,000 pensioners in poverty in Scotland. That is the highest number in over 20 years and, without action, could rise to 180,000 by 2031. Independent Age's manifesto set out how the next Scottish Parliament can help.

Leeds fans booing break for Muslim players to break Ramadan fast is an absolute disgrace! Shocking behaviour! So far removed from the best spirit of the game! Sure many Leeds fans were also appalled!

Reform implosion is inevitable I agree. But I wonder if it might take longer than anticipated. My own sense is that Labour will of course survive and in FPTP that survival could be a bounce back, but my strong sense is that it’s part of a bigger shift politically and Labour are caught in that.

Perhaps you’re right however it’s also possible that parties get lost long term and do not recover their dominant position long term in political paradigm shifts for example the liberals in the 1920’s

Greens have chance now to actually develop a political party that more people believe in/can vote for. This means learning from the failures and capitulations that have assailed Greens in govt elsewhere. In Scotland got to make environment and poverty centre focus and change how they are seen by many!

Erich Fromm’s

β€œThere is only one meaning of life:the act of living itself”

Has probably never spoken more to people than now,but not as the life affirming secular perspective he presented, more as a refusal to succumb to the despair at the state of the world and the people who hold power in it!

Now watch the billionaire media throw all the dirt it can at the Greens, who could thwart its dream of a Farage government.

In just 10 weeks, voters across England, Scotland and Wales will head back to the polls. The same pressures and frustrations on show in Gorton & Denton will be felt elsewhere too. So, if we want to keep denying Reform UK the momentum they are chasing, we can’t relent.
