Dave, our supporter, was interviewed today on the BBC in the lead up to the #AssistedDyingBill vote. Here he talks about the terror which his wife felt on the way to Dignitas. Nobody should have to experience this. Today, MPs chose NOT to keep exporting compassion to Switzerland.

Feeling very relieved, very emotional. In the last 20 years, the assisted dying campaigners whose campaigning has been based on personal experience have been some of the most impressive I’ve met. Turned their own tragedies into determination to help others. Impressive. Inspiring. Now vindicated!

Many tens of thousands of people in the years to come will have better lives and better deaths because of @kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social - her calm principled leadership has been an inspiration. Few legislators have so great and permanent a positive impact and she takes her place among that noble few.

This week has shown just how important Humanist values are. I respect all my colleagues who voted differently but today I believe we in Parliament did a very good thing for humanity.

Dignity, choice, respect, and people’s right not to be forced to endure agonising death from terminal illness. We’re not all well enough, or rich enough to go abroad and pull the plug. I never again want to see anyone dying in the manner my friends were forced to. I know exactly what I’m supporting.
