Our conversation about this movie spiraled into β€œWTF - WE ARE WE LIVING IN A TECHNO HELLSCAPE” but the movie is still good, but also good for realizing how stupid and annoying the tech bro future is something that promises everything and yet just delivers the most boring, useless crap

Only one fun run finisher. I can’t image how bad the course was with an early start on Valentine’s Day and all the snow we’ve had.

I’ve recommended this book a lot over the past year, and I think for the people constantly asking the question β€œhow did average people become nazis” this is answering that question through the American century.
Home grown, small town zealotry masked in conservative values about protecting families

Elon being up at 6am asking β€œpwetty pwease invite me to your pedophile island πŸ₯Ίβ€ and Epstein dodging because he couldn’t tolerate spending a single minute with Elon is the least surprising leak I’ve seen yet

Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college:
1. Europe from 1929-1939
2. Irish Lit
3. Tech ethics
4. US Colonial History (thesis class)
5. Advanced creative writing - even though that was a decade ago, it really helped me decide doing my MFA now would be worth it

I want to have that same hope, but I’m just not sure I view the republicans as fragile by any measurement- they’ll accept imperfections as long as the movement of power is leaning in their direction. Half of the powerful conservative groups hate Trump and yet here we are.

The Melania documentary utterly bombing is making me a little hopeful that the cult of Trump will die when his heart gives out (soonish?). But in dying out, could it change into something else that’s even more stupid? Possibly, yes, but not dumb enough to ascend Don Jr or Erik probably

It's obviously good that citizens with smartphones can create multiple records of these shootings and undercut propaganda and government lies about them. But I find it a little deranging that being an informed news consumer in 2026 requires watching what are essentially snuff videos in slow-mo.

NONCOMPLIANT is on her way! I am so grateful to @haymarketbooks.org for the opportunity to write this book. This is our generational family story of resistance to involuntary psychiatric treatment, set against a half century of efforts to 'bring back the asylum' in the United States.

My take on the Jan 23 action in Minneapolis is that I don’t really care whether it’s a β€œtrue” general strike (we could argue about that all day).

What DOES matter is that it’s a bold and necessary escalation, and local labor leaders are publicly encouraging workers to join in anti-ICE resistance

Support Calvary Food Shelf: Emergency Response Fundraiser on GiveMN Help us respond to urgent community needs

Hey folks Calvary Food Shelf has been helping out people in Minneapolis for 30 years, and now they’re ramping up to meet the crisis, including doing home deliveries so people don’t have to risk going out.

They’re just over halfway to their current goalβ€”let’s get them all the way, shall we?

As a social movements scholar, I absolutely love the diversity of tactics being developed by each city, reflecting their local flavor

Portland kept it weird with inflatable costumes

Chicago protected its street vendors by buying up their food each day

Charlotte chased ICE agents into the woods

I still think about Confessions of an Economic Hit Man constantly. Even if you don’t think it’s a totally honest personal story, the reality of the US is that we are an unfathomably violent empire. There is almost no way to be hyperbolic about destructive our capitalist order has been for the world

I literally do not have a single photo from 2016. Not even a screenshot.
I’ve been doing some timeline plotting for my book and it’s strange to have my life feel like there’s a year that didn’t exist, a whole calendar year lost to the unrealities of my mind.

Has anyone written up something specific on why Minneapolis has been chosen for Trumps full force siege?
Maybe not a singular thing- Is it the city’s immigration or population, its history of voting dem, Trump’s big swing state miss, or the embarrassment of watching a precinct burn in 2020?

Here’s some of my honorable mentions for my year of reading. With 140 books or so, I never feel like a top 10 does it justice. I’m still working on what exactly is making the cut and the order, but these are some of the ones I really loved
